Well, someone, out of principle, should make a thread on this recently published bestseller. I myself finished it and am happy to discuss with anyone who so desires. This is the last warning for those not desiring spoilers...I'd like to discuss the book in full not skirt around occurences with doublewords so if you haven't read it do not continue.

Well, I have to say that I liked it. It was overall much better quality writing than the sixth and with the exception of some of Ron, Harry and Hermione's aimless searching, more or less lacked extraneous material. I really enjoyed the twists at the end, even if she ended up not killing off any of the three main good characters, which I found surprising. I was to find that I made good guesses. Mad-Eye Moody's death made me very very sad and I just wasn't expecting it yet. I cried when Dobby died. Snape is one of the most marvelous double agents ever and Rowling did a wonderful job convincing us that Dumbledore just might have been a complete cad, only to give us the train station in Harry's head scene. I found the epilogue to be cute, but I felt like she put it in to restrict someone else managing somehow to write sequels and to torture fanfiction writers everywhere, though now we are going to get a ton of fics about that set of kids at school.

Yeah, I couldn't believe how far it had gotten into the book before the finally destroyed the locket, and then to think how many others they had to find/destroy. I did like the epilogue, but I think I could've had more. And did she really have to kill of Lupin AND Tonks, couldn't she have just killed one. I mean, she chose not to kill off Arthur. According to an MSNBC interview anyway. I could've lost Arthur for Lupin. Oh and she is going to write a little encyclopedia with backstory, according to the interview. But probably not for some time. But I am glad that the fanfics continue to live.

I think it was for the better to kill off both of them...together in death etc. Besides, now we have another orphan! I really like Arthur. Think of poor Mrs. Weasley, down a son and a husband? I will never get over Fred's death. The locket took forever!!! Especially when you remember that we've been involved with said locket since the last fifth of the sixth book.

Arthur was supposed to die in Order of the Phoenix, but Jo decided to spare him...I believe he was also supposed to die in Deathly Hallows, but somehow managed to emerge physically intact. I would have been quite upset if she had killed him off, but the more I think about it, considering the number of Weasleys, I'm surprised that only Fred died...
I personally didn't enjoy this one that much, and I'm well aware I'm in the minority on that. wink I suppose this is one of those books you either love or you hate.
Could have done without the entire tent/camping part, particularly the overly repetitive trend of Harry dreaming/predicting what Voldy was up to and then getting yelled at by Hermoine - how many times did that happen? I lost count. Epilogue was pointless. The entire casting doubt on Dumbledore...it seemed like excess baggage to me. I'm interested in Harry getting/destroying the horcruxes, not Dumbledore's biography. Lupin and Tonks' deaths were relatively expected, but kind of annoys me how they made Harry godfather of their kid and then you hear nothing about Teddy until the epilogue - I smell a spin-off! Dobby's death was upsetting, but it was spectacular...at least in comparison to most everyone else's, most of whom died "off-screen". I love the kinda offhandedness of that - after awhile, it felt like "Oh, by the way, so-in-so's dead. Ok, moving on, lalala...". Ron using Parseltongue = ridiculous Very interesting material on the wands and allegiances however...
However, my absolute FAVORITE part of the book is the very end, where Snape and Harry stand there for several minutes arguing over who's side Snape was on...and then Harry gets to give the big "revelation speech" and they do the "wolves circling, yet no real action" dialog for 6 pages or so. stare
Wait, I take that back...my favorite part of the book is where Mrs. Weasley swears. I laughed so hard I dropped the book and continued to laugh for a good 5 minutes or so. That line was priceless. blaugh
Overall, while I found parts of it entertaining, I found other parts seemingly rushed, while others were overly crammed and dragged on, parts of it emotionally powerful, other parts seriously lacking and/or appearing to be over-dramatized fan fiction, various plot-holes and continuity-errors...it was a roller-coaster read, but not in a good way. Personally, I don't feel the book lived up the hype, nor is it worthy of its predecessors. Not a horrible read, I've read worse, but it was a disappointment.
However, I was left with a valuable lesson: When I become dictator of the world, I will personally make sure my enemies are dead...always, and I will not engage them in a verbal battle whilst my minions stand around twiddling their thumbs. domokun

There are things to learn from books. wink I did think it was interesting that only one weasley died considering that there were nine of them involved in this endeavor.

I thought it was an awesome book that provoked many tears, but I think the epilogue should have mentioned what the trio's careers were. We know Harry wanted to be an Auror, but that can't happen now.

Hermione in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. ^_^

I liked that Harry stopped whining so much!! You know, when I read all that stuff I really did just want to put the book down and stop reading.
However, this last one seemed to return to the many viewpoints we're used to. I knew there was going to be death, but man oh man did soooo mannnyyy have to die?? I was pissed that Dobby died and especially about Fred. (WTF, man, you can't kill one of the twins off!) I thought it was especially smart not to kill off Harry, Ron or Hermione. No one would have been happy with that, least of all me.
I like that the books are long, but some parts like the whole camping sequence needed to be cut down some. The action lagged a lot, even when Ron left and you wonder for a moment if that's it.
I thought it was pretty obvious and not at all a surprise that Voldemort or Harry had to die in order for one to live, or whatever the prophecy was supposed to reveal. Come on, we know there's going to be an epic battle and Harry's going to win it.
I thought it was good that the 2 couples remained intact in the end. Albus Severus is a pretty serious name for a kid though. Can you just feel that fanfic is going to flow, with him as the main character?
I was angry during the 7 hours it took for me to read the last book, but I think I enjoyed the ending anyway.

I heard that she wrote a 30 page epilouge but only put a few pages into the book....which in some ways is dissapointing but I guess it makes sense not wanting to over do it.

Quote: Wait, I take that back...my favorite part of the book is where Mrs. Weasley swears. I laughed so hard I dropped the book and continued to laugh for a good 5 minutes or so. That line was priceless. That was halarious...I laughed super hard...it was very suprising that she was the one to kill belatrix...I expected it to be Neville who would've killed her.

so....after my comments to random peoples opinions....for my own opinions.
lets see....I don't think I've ever cried so much during a book....the camping part in the middle was boring and I got tired a few times reading it....A lot of the stuff that my friend and I predicted actually came true....I think my favorite part of the book was when Severus' whole plot was revealed I think that was a very emotional breaking point for a lot of people I cried at that part too it made me very very sad for severus and a gazillion brownie points....specially when you find out that it was his patronus that helped Harry find the sword that was pretty interesting....I enjoyed the nice side of Kreacher also ^_^.
I also like how the book didn't start the same as the last few....with Harry at the Dursleys....then the Weasleys...then the train...and then the school...it was a well written beginning.
JKR made Harry the godfather and Teddy an orphan on purpose though...she says that in the interview on muggle net also.

I liked this book. I went to get it at midnight (only because I was leaving in the morning before the bookstore was open). I started reading part of it when I got home, but I was waaaaay too tired. I ended up finishing it on the plane to Guam the Monday after it came out (was at a family party type thing).
Anyways, enough babbling.
I loved when Mrs. Weasely swore, I laughed so hard, and got funny looks from my stepsister.
I was kind of upset about Lupin and Tonks dying, but I'm glad she didn't kill off Arthur Weasely. And also surprised that only one Weasley died...
Am I the only one that liked the epilogue?
