At the moment, I think my favorite author is Kurt Vonnegut. He has such a distinct writing style and his books are always so honest. If you have never read anything by him, you should.
How about you guys?

Galapagos is my favorite Vonnegut. Right now I am relative obsessed with Jim Butcher who writes The Dresden Files books.
King, of course.

I haven't read The Dresden Files yet, but I keep meaning to. Maybe I'll actually get around to it once I finish the books I'm working on at the moment.

My favorite author would be Robert Fulghum. He writes mostly inspirational books but they are funny short stories with different outlooks on common things in life.
Strictly fantasy/fiction though I would say it's a toss up between JK Rowlings and Christopher Paolini. Though I just recently finished reading Stardust by Michael Gaiman and that was pretty good.
