“Don’t do it!”
On the old 29th street a building stood tall and defied the winds. Running inside the structure was a spiraling staircase that led up to the roof. A young woman rushed her way toward the upper level, shedding tears as she went. Not too far behind her, was a man yelling at her.
“Sara! Get down from there!” He shouted at her, but she continued up the metal staircase neglecting his words. Her hands slid across metal rails, sending shivers up her already cold body, causing her to shake unsteadily. With her shaking and the steps spaced far apart, it was destined for her foot to miss its footing. She nearly fell off backwards as she did, but at the last moment her grip on the rail saved her.
“Sara! Please listen to me. You don’t have to do this. You’re going to lose your balance, come back here before you get hurt!” She still ignored him, and pulled herself up. Tears continued to stream down her face as she started to run again. Slowly her thoughts surfaced, and she reminisced of her past. She could not help but to cry.
Memories flashed through her head as if they were just happening. She was late getting up for school, but luckily she did not live too far from it, so she was able to walk to it. After rushing to get dressed and ready, she took off outside.
The temperature was below freezing, and sleet started forming on the roads. Not many cars dared to drive out on the slick street because of the danger, and most people did not care to walk outside in such temperatures. It was as if she had the whole road to herself.
She tugged on her backpack as her feet rushed along the sidewalk, her shoes made loud squishing sounds as they crushed into the snow that had accumulated overnight. Her mind droned out the sound as she started to go over trigonometry equations for an upcoming test.
She paid no attention to the ground below her, as her shoe found a slick spot on the road. Her foot slipped forward and caused her to tumble down. Luckily she was not hurt, and in fact she started to laugh as she thought about how embarrassing it was. She was just glad no one was around. Little did she know that she was wrong.
Sounds of footsteps approached not far behind her, but they were light enough to go through her head without a second thought. Once they reached close to her, a soft voice spoke out startling her. “Ah I guess it is safe to say you know how to break the ice.” The man chuckled as approached her side, “Maybe next time you should watch out where you are going, instead of thinking about something else.” He continued to laugh.
“Hmph,” she grunted quietly. She looked at the man beside her, he was the new kid. Although she never met him before, she had heard about him. His parents just moved in from Seattle, and he enrolled not too long ago at her school as a Junior. Rumors spread rampantly about him like they did for all new students. Everyone always awaited for the next juicy gossip, the last thing she wanted was for the new kid to be making fun of her, and for others to hear about it.
“Here, let me help you up.” He offered his hand to her, but she denied it. She attempted to get back up on her own, but she fell again. She did not give up though, and turned his hand down once again as she attempted to get up, with failure.
He never saw someone so stubborn as her, but figured all beautiful girls probably were though. With her pride, he would be better off leaving her to her own demise, but he was not going to give up. He was just going to try a different approach. “I guess I’ll see you at school, if you can get up from the ground,” he teased and slowly turned around to make as if he was parting ways.
“Wait . . .” she had finally given in. She could tell by the tone of his voice that he was not going to really leave, at least until she stood. Since she could not get up, she decided she might as well accept his helping hand, it as nice of him after all. It would not either to actually get up from the cold ground. A smile found a place on her face as she spoke, “I guess I could use your help.”
He turned around and saw her black eyes starting to sparkle. It was like stars in the dark night. She had a smile on her face, and held her arm out for him. He placed his hand around hers, and felt her smooth skin against his.
He pulled gently on her to get her up, but as he barely raised her halfway, his own shoe found a similar slick spot. His feet lost stability, and he started to fall backwards, but right before he fell too far, he caught his balance.
They both started to laugh.
“Okay, let’s try this one last time,” he offered his hand once again.
“You never give up, do you?” She grabbed his hand again.
“Nope, never do.” He smiled, and finally pulled her up onto her feet. Both of them were exhausted, and just stood there smiling at their small victory over gravity.
“You okay?” He finally asked her.
“Of course.”
“Okay, next time you should be more careful, you might hurt something more than just your pride . . . and bottom.”
“Hey mister, you were falling too!” She exclaimed jokingly in her defense.
“Call me Jack, and hey, at least I managed to catch myself.” He snickered.
“Hmph, well it’s not my fault that I don’t have the balance of a cat. They both started laughing, and after they were finally rested they headed off toward school chatting to each other.
That is when it all started, the day she started liking him.

The memory started to fade as Ross continued to yell at her. She did not listen to him. She just wanted to leave, leave everything behind. Ross would not accept it though, he continued to yell at her.
Her feet carried her to the doorway. She dreaded opening the door with the fear of what was going to happen next. There was a time that she had felt like that before, fearing to enter a room knowing of the consequences to come, but Jack was at least there to help her.
The door long ago led into Mr. Thomson’s class, and it too was closed. Inside she could hear the students talking. She dreaded going in. She knew once the door was open, she would have to confess to Mr. Thomson . . . that she broke his microscope that he had lent her.
Spring was already there, and she had her new classes, and Mr. Thomson was her science teacher. She loved science, and was fascinated by the microscope. He noticed her amazement for it, and allowed her to borrow it for that one night. He said he was always glad to help a kid interested in science, and that she was.
After school, she had rushed home, and started to use the microscope, looking at anything she could fine. Eventually all her hard work made her thirsty, and she went to get a drink of water. When she had come back, she saw a horrible sight. . . .
Her cat had knocked over the microscope. Sadly it had broken into three pieces. “No” she cried and tried to place them back together, but they were disobedient and refused to be fixed.
She could not believe what had happened, and did not know what to do. She stayed up all night thinking about what to tell Mr. Thomson. It was her responsibility and she blew it.
“Well . . .” she placed her hand on the door, “here goes nothing.” She started opening the door, but stopped short as she heard footsteps approach from behind, it was Jack.
“Hey there,” he smiled, but it faded once he saw an impressive fake smile plastered on her face. He knew something was wrong, after all, with the time they spent throughout the school year, they both got to know each other more. In fact they had started to become best friends.
She looked down. Her black hair fluttered in the air behind her as she did. She attempted to hide the broken pieces in her arms as she talked, “nothing, nothing is wrong.”
Jack knew better than that. He did not have to see what she held concealed in her bear grip to know it was the thing that disturbed her. “Come on,” he reached across to her arms, “let me see.”
“No,” she pulled her arms back, “it’s not important.”
“Hey, you always tell me everything anyway, so might as well show me while I can still help.” He said, and tugged at her hands again.
She looked into his eyes, and saw that man who offered his hand to her while she was down. He would not give up helping her, so she decided she would let him at least see it. “Okay . . .” she opened her arms, and revealed the broken microscope.
He looked down at the broken pieces, and quickly grabbed them before she could close her arms.
“So, this is what got you down . . .” he spoke softly as he went over the pieces, they could not be fixed, even with adhesives.
Her eyes started to tear up as she knew he came to the same conclusion. There was no way to fix her problem, just like the microscope could not be fixed. But Jack, like always, would not give up on helping her.
He opened up the door before she could ask for it back, and he held the microscope in his hand as he paced straight to Mr. Thomson’s desk. Sara followed Jack wondering and worried of what he was doing.
Jack signaled for her to stop, as he made it to the teacher’s desk. She was not going to yield, so before she could come closer, he handed the broken microscope to Mr. Thomson.
The old teacher peered down at the broken pieces, and his face turned slightly red with anger. “What happened?” His usual cool manner became boiled quite quickly.
“I’m sorry Mr. Thomson, but I have broken your microscope. I saw Sara with it, and asked her if I could borrow it. Of course she said no, and that I would get a chance in class. I could not wait though, and I made an attempt to take it from her, but I did not get a good grip on it. The microscope fell to the floor. I’m sorry that I have broken it, and I will take full responsibility for all the damages.” Jack had spoken with pure confidence, and it was loud enough for all to hear. He wanted everyone’s attention drawn to him.
For but a short moment, all eyes were indeed on him, but the teacher glanced to Sara. He saw the sadness in her eyes, and knew what had happen. Still, the show of dramatics Jack displayed forced all the responsibility on himself, as the class awaited the punishment for him.
Mr. Thomson looked at him, and spoke in a calmer manner. “I’m disappointed in you. I could easily have you expelled, but because of the responsibility you have taken on,” he glanced in Sara’s direction, letting Jack know that he knew, “I’m going to give you a month’s detention, and while you’re there, I’m going to make you work for every cent that the microscope cost.”
“Yes sir.”
Some of the kids snickered as Jack went off toward his seat. Sara stood there in awe wondering why he would do such a thing. It was her fault, yet he was willing to take all the blame for . . . her.
Mr. Thomson stopped her mind wondering when he startled her with his voice. “Sara, you better head onto class before you get in trouble too.”
She blushed a bit in embarrassment, she had completely forgotten that she had went to his class first thing in the morning. He taught Junior’s first, so her class would not be until later in the day.
Before she left, she glanced over at Jack once again in amazement. Her heart fluttered as she thought about him. He was always there for her, and always willing to give her a helping hand when she needed him the most.
As the day continued on, she could not help but think about him, and the way she felt when she did.
That’s when she knew that she started loving him.

The memory slowly faded away, as she tasted the glacial air from the cold wind that blew in through the door’s crack. She pushed on it, and it slowly creaked open. A blast of frigid wind overtook her, and made it hard for her to progress ahead.
Ross took the advantage, and closed in on her. She barely made it halfway across before he encountered the strong resistance. The odds evened out, and forced him again to confront her only through his words.
“Please Sara, stop!” The wind mercifully allowed his voice to make it to her ears, as if in a desperate attempt for her to listen to him. It was no hope, she tuned him out as she rushed closer to the edge of the roof.
The strong wind fluttered her clothes, and forced her necklace to come out of its hiding spot. She noticed it instantly as the warm pendant drew her attention from the cold air. It held so much meaning to her, and slowly as her mind drew on it, she reminisced.
Her Junior year flew by as she spent more time with Jack. They went everywhere and did everything together, from going to dinner and movies to a picnic, and many other things. Throughout school, he always had the same electives as her, which made classes go by fast. Almost in an attempt to balance her life out, her Senior year went by terribly slow.
The little amount of friends she had, drifted away. She ended up only hanging out with two people at school, Jack and Ross. Her Senior year though, it posed a problem since both of them were a grade ahead of her, which meant they graduated.
Classes no longer went by as fast, especially when she crammed her schedule with advance courses. The only thing that kept her going was thinking about Jack encouraging her on. Him and his helping hand.
As her patience dwindled, her Senior year finally came to an end. All the hard classes that she took really dragged her down. Jack noticed and decided he would do something great for her on the last day of school.
Jack went happily down to the jewelry store, but instantly returned with nothing. Even though he had held down a job, he could not afford to buy her anything while he barely could afford to pay rent.
So he decided to do the next best thing that money could afford, he went home and cooked her a meal of all her favorite things. When she came to his house, he treated her as a precious pearl that he could not buy.
She enjoyed everything as they reminisced of the school years. He made her realize everything she went through was worth it. Not only that, but she was easily accepted into any college she wanted, so she could achieve her dreams of being a scientist.
That night seemed to last forever. They both did not want it to end.
Summer went through at the top speed, and with every pay check, Jack went to the jewelry store looking for something for her. Every time he found something he liked more, but could never afford it, causing him to always return home empty handed.
Sara was accepted into Cornell, and was due to go to college soon. They both knew they would have to depart from each other for a long time, and Sara started to hesitate her decision in going. Jack increased his search for the perfect gift, and finally ended up borrowing money from Ross.
He went to the jewelry store, and bought her the gift he always intended in getting her, and the timing could not have been better. The next day was Sara’s trip.
Jack waited till the last possible moment as they drove to the airport. She was sad, thinking about everything that she was going to leave behind. He stopped in front of the drop-off zone, and turned to her.
“Sara, I want you to have something . . . ,” her eyes lit up as he dug into his pocket. He pulled his hand out, concealing the present. “I know it does not look like much, but it is . . .” he opened his hand to reveal a key, “the key to my heart. I want you to have it.”
She could not help but give a smile at his corniness, and it thrilled her heart. He gave her the key, and she accepted it with a kiss. “Thank you so much.”
“I just like to think of it as returning it to whom it belonged to.”
Again she kissed him and smiled, but it became a frown as she heard the announcement. “Flight 23 is now boarding.” A tear came down her face, “that’s my plane.”
“Well, you better go before you miss it, and make sure you keep your bag with you.” He laughed.
“I will. . . .” She grabbed her bag, and looked into his eyes, “I love you Jack.”
“I love you too.”
They embraced one last time and she went off toward the doors with her head held down. She made her way toward the right boarding gate, and was directed to her seat. She sat down with a sigh.
She could not stop looking at the key, and thinking of Jack. She could see his eyes, they were so filled with love. How could she leave him? She questioned herself over and over. She wanted to be with him, and she was going to be with him even if she had to delay her dreams.
Just as she was about to stand up to leave the plane, her cell phone rang. She quickly dug into her purse, and saw Jack’s name on the display screen. It was a little odd of him calling her, and she became worried that something was wrong. She answered anxiously, “Jack, what’s wrong?”
“Hi Sara, I know your plane is about to leave, so I’ll make this quick. I just wanted you to know how proud I’m of you for going off to college and fulfilling your dreams. I know I told you that so many times already. I’m just so happy for you. I know how much you wanted to go, and how much it means to you. Although I want to be selfish and greedy and keep you with me forever, I have to let you leave. But there is a way for us to be together always. Sara, please open up your bag.”
“Jack, what did you do?” She said with a smile that clung to her voice.
“Just do what I said, and dig through it. You’ll find out soon enough.”
She dug through it as fast as she could, pushing clothes to the side to reach further to the bottom. A brown heart-shaped box came into view. “Oh, Jack . . .” She lifted it up and looked at it in amazement.
It seemed to be made of oak, and on the front of it a lock was imbedded. “Sara, I told you I gave you the key to my heart, well there’s my heart. Open it and find out what is inside.”
The key fit snugly into place and she unlocked the lid. She quickly flung it open and saw the gift that he had bought her. It was a small golden angel with diamond wings. “Jack . . .” she was lost for words.
“You’re my angel, and in my heart, you are always there. Hold onto me like I hold onto you, and we’ll always be together.”
“Jack, I love you so much.” Tears of joy streamed down her face.
“I love you too, and I hope you have a wonderful trip. I’ll be thinking about you always, and I’ll call you all the time.”
“Thank you Ja-“ She jumped a little as a stewardess came around.
“Ma’am, I am sorry to interrupt, but you have to turn your cell phone off.”
“Oh, okay.” She added speaking the phone, Jack I have to go. I love you!”
“I love you too my angel, have a safe trip.”
She was so close to breaking into tears only seconds ago, and now she could not help but give a smile as she thought about him while the airplane moved down the tarmac.
That day she knew how much he cared for her. Even being hundreds of miles apart, they were brought closer than ever before.

Slowly the memory faded away as she reached the edge of the roof.
Tears rolled down her face in a stream. She reached up toward Jack’s necklace, and ripped it off, but kept it clenched in her hands as she climbed on top of the ledge.
She was barely on top before the wind tried to push her back, but she was able to keep hold of her balance.
Ross yelled at her again. “Please stop! Don’t do this! Come on, just think about it. Come back before you can’t go back! It doesn’t need to end like this! Be strong! Be strong for Jack!”
She never had to worry about being strong. Whatever she could not handle, Jack was always there to support her. In fact he ended up quitting his job after her first semester, so he could move in with her. She ended up moving out of the dorms and into an apartment near by. Jack still had to keep a job down to help pay for it, but Ross came and helped out so Jack could go to college too.
Jack quickly advanced through his courses. He was meant to be there. In science he whizzed through it. He even caused some of the professors to have debates with him. He was a natural, more so than her. He was unstoppable. He was on top of the world. Even when he was piled with work he still seemed happy, because he was with her.
They were both happy. They both cared for each other a whole lot, and Jack was always there for her. When she had to study for a test, he would quit what he was doing and help her. As long as he was around, she never had a worry. He was always so wonderful to her. Only he could make her happy. He took away her pain.
With all happiness though, came the price of despair. As school continued, she ended up slipping up in class. All of the professors yelled at her, and nobody seemed to like her anymore. To top that off, she failed her bio test. She studied so hard for it, but she just did not seem to fall in the groove anymore. It was as if life had it out for her.
What made it worse was that Jack had helped her study, and she still failed. It felt as though she failed him too. Jack and Ross were the only people whom she felt cared if she existed. It put pressure on her to try and not ruin their friendship together.
Jack noticed her change in behavior. She had become docile, always giving in as if to try and make them happy. He knew she felt like she was slowly losing everyone, but he knew how to fix the problem.
That following night after the test, Jack organized a party, and he invited everyone that knew Sara. He even had Ross scouring the address-books calling everyone who she was friends with through high school. They had filled a few pages of those who could attend the next night.
With that out of the way, Jack sent Ross to pick up supplies for the party, while he talked to the professor. He wanted Sara’s last professor to detain her until the party was set up. The professor was amused and agreed to wait for a call before he would let her go.
It did not take long for everyone to pile into the house filled with streamers, and a banner that said “We love you Sara!” All was set, and Jack made the phone call.
Night time had approached, and she finally made it to the door. As the keys jostled around, everyone sat with anticipation. The door finally opened revealing Sara, their guest of honor.
“Surprise!” Everyone screamed, startling Sara. She almost fell backwards from the door.
Everyone quickly surrounded her, and started talking to her. She realized it was a party in her name, and Jack had got everyone that she knew there. They were there for her, and every single one of them took out time to talk to her. She finally felt like she mattered to the world.
By the end of the party, she was beyond happy, and could not thank Jack enough for setting it up. As people left, she finally had a chance to talk to Jack.
“You always have to put a smile on my face, don’t you?”
“That I do, and the night is not over yet, come with me.”
She followed him quickly as he led her outside. They approached a side rail leading down from the apartment’s roof, and he had her climb up following him.
They made it to the top of the roof, and sat down with her besides him. “Just look at the stars, they’re all out tonight wanting to meet you.” He said to her, and pulled her close to him.
“It’s beautiful.” She whispered back.
They both just sat there talking for hours and hours until the sun rose.
That memory slowly faded away, she had to face reality. Jack was not on this roof beside her. She was alone on a thirty-story high ledge. Just a small slip and she would plummet off. But that did not bother her, in fact it was the reason she came up there in the first place.
Ross battled against the wind and gained a small distance. He was barely yards away, and advancing while trying to talk her out of it. “Step back onto the roof!”
Finally as she heard him approach closer, she turned around and looked into his blue eyes. “Ross, I’m sorry. I just can’t handle this anymore. Without Jack . . . the world is meaningless . . .“ she paused, and cried out, “I can’t live like this anymore! I want to be with Jack!”
She lifted one of her feet off the edge, and Ross yelled at her. His voice more frantic than ever, “No! Don’t do it. You’re not alone, I’m still here for you! I will always be here for you!”
“. . . Always?” The tears streaming down her face seemed to widen as she repeated the word. Her eyes flared as she yelled at him “Don’t you ever say that to me! Jack was the only one who was always there for me, and he’s not here anymore! He’ll never be here anymore!”
She broke down crying as the most painful memory of all came to her. It was still fresh, being not even a month ago.
Sara and Jack had been going out for almost six years, a lot had happened of the course of that time. Most recently Sara and Jack moved out on their own in a little house not far from campus. They had finally achieved another part of their dream. Jack though did not want to settle for what they had, no, he wanted more. During that anniversary day, he would make another dream come true.
He wanted it to be a special day for her, and he saved up as much money as he could to make it as such. On the night he set up the most wonderful dinner Sara’s eyes ever laid eyes on. He made her a three-course meal, with lobster being the main entree. He also prepared her favorite dessert, cheesecake, which he made by scratch.
They ate the meal illuminated by the candle light on their table. Soft jazz music could be heard not far from their table. Jack sat near her, wearing a tux with even a handkerchief in his pocket. He went all out and even gelled up his brown hair. His eyes sparkled at her as they ate and talked.
Sara knew it was not just a regular anniversary party, he never wore a tux since she knew him. Something indeed was up, and at the end of the meal she was ready to question him. But he already started to put his plan in motion.
Jack walked over to her and grabbed her hand gently, just like when he was pulling her up from the ice. He looked into her eyes, and he got down on one knee in front of her. She started to cry tears of joy. He pulled out his handkerchief, and brushed it around her beautiful eyes gently.
Her black eyes twinkled as he spoke to her. “Sara, I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time. I always wanted to tell you the moment that I first met you, I thought you were really,” he paused as if looking for the right word, but quickly found it, “graceful.” They started laughing a bit.
“Jack-“ He placed his free hand across her lips.
“No, what I really wanted to say was that I thought you were really beautiful. I never saw an angel before, but thanks to you, I have. When I got to know you, it was like I was getting to know myself. Every day was a new experience. Every day I couldn’t stop thinking about you. You fell into my life . . . literally.” They both laughed, as tears continued down her face.
He continued on, “I’m glad you did. If I didn’t know you, I don’t think I would have made it through this world. I don’t want to find out. That is why I’m asking you. Will you marry me?”
“Yes!” She did not even have to think about it. He placed the ring on her hand gracefully until it was snug. She spoke softly, “I love you.” Those three words brought happiness to him
“I love you too.” It was her turn who those words brought happiness to. They both leaned over and kissed each other. They did not want it to end. They were finally content in this world. Nothing could tear them down, or so they thought.

It was getting late, and they both laid in bed together just looking into each other eyes. She slowly drifted to sleep.
The night slowly ended, but Jack heard a noise from the living room. He got up, not disturbing Sara, and walked toward the disturbance. As the sound grew louder, he picked up a lamp from the dresser.
He slowly walked down the hallway, and saw a dark figure in the kitchen. The figure was pitch black, and it was hard to distinguish it in the dark, but he knew it was not Ross. He raised the lamp, and walked closer to the person.
Creak! A broad moaned under Jack’s weight, alerting the robber. The man reached for a kitchen knife, and charged at Jack. Both of them swung at each other.
A red line appeared around Jack’s left shoulder. It was quite deep, and he could feel the blood coming out of it. The robber though was not left unscathed. He had blood coming down his head where Jack’s lamp made contact with it.
The crashing of the lamp alerted Sara, and she took off toward the living room to find Jack getting stabbed again by the robber. Jack lost his balance and stumbled backwards only to ram into a wall.
“Jack!” Sara yelled, and started to rush to his aid, but he flung his arm out to her.
“Get back! Call 911!”
The robber left Jack alone since he seemed to be wounded enough, and he turned his attention to Sara. She dashed off toward the phone.
Jack still had some fight left in him, and he lurched toward the robber. His fist slammed down against the man’s face, knocking the burglar down to the floor.
“Help! Send an ambulance, Jack’s wounded. Please help!” She cried into the phone.
She continued to relay information while Jack tried to remain standing, but he was too exhausted. It did not take too long before he fell down.
Sara rushed toward him, and picked him up in her arms. She saw the two long chest wounds. “Please hurry, he’s going to die,” she cried into the phone.
He was bleeding badly, and he started to have a hard time talking. “I . . . I didn’t want it to end this way. . . . I wanted to be there for you always. . . . I love you.”
“Jack,” she sobbed. “No! Don’t die on me! You’ll make it. Stay strong, the ambulance will be here shortly. Just hold on Jack. Please. Just think about the future. We’ll be married, we’ll have kids, and grow old together. You’ll be happy, just stay alive Jack, just stay alive!” She started crying, and the tears fell on his face. They made their way down his cheek meeting up with tears of his own.
“Don’t . . . cry.” He gasped for air, he was having problems breathing. “I might not get to be here with you . . . But I will always be in your heart. I love you . . .” Jack started gasping rapidly for air this time, and he titled his head back.
“Jack, I love you too . . .” tears overfilled.
His eyes closed, and his head fell all the way back. His chest no longer breathed in air.
“Jack!” She was mortified at what had happened, and could not move.
The ambulance made it ten minutes too short. There was nothing they could do for Jack, but they were able to take care of the robber.
Jack was dead. He continued to lie in her arms for a while. All the life that he had in him just went away. She could not let him go. She wanted him back. “Why couldn’t the robber go to another house? Why mine?” She cried at the questions that could not be answered.
She creased Jack’s hair as he laid in her arms, she would do anything for him to be alive again. She whispered into his ear, “I love you . . .”
Those three words were never returned. She cried and cried, and did not want to let go of Jack, but eventually the coroner came along and took him away. That moment, she felt truly alone. She could only think about him. She loved him so much. Memories flooded her head. She remembered their first date, when she fell in love with him. She even remembered how he was always there for her. Always. But now, now . . . life seemed so empty to her without him.
Ross heard the news, and came over her house and tried to cheer her up. She lasted three and a half weeks just sitting in her house doing nothing but thinking about him.
He tried to get her out of the house just to walk around a bit, and hopefully get her mind off things, but she was proved to be stubborn.
Finally yesterday she gave in and walked with Ross. They did not go far before they arrived at 29th street, and she saw the giant building. It stood so tall, it seemed it could reach anywhere, even to Jack. She knew what she wanted to do, but knew Ross would not allow her to. She had to do it when he was not around.
In the morning, when Ross went off to work, she wrote him a goodbye letter and took off. Unknown to her though, Ross forgot his wallet, and went back home. He saw the letter, and he could not believe what she was planning on doing.
He took off after her in his car, and he saw her enter the building. He ran after her up to the top floor yelling for her to stop. She would not though, she just kept going. Even when she slipped, she just kept on going.
Eventually she made it up the long spiraling staircase and through the door. As he got out of the door, he saw her walk to the ledge and stand on top of it.
Ross cared for her, she was one of his best friends. After Jack died, she took it really hard. Jack made Ross promise that if anything ever happened to him and Sara was still alive, he wanted Ross to always be there for her. Ross tried, and wanted to be there for her, but he knew he might be too late.
Ross yelled it at the top of his lungs. “No! Don’t do it. You’re not alone. I’m still here for you! I will always be here for you!”
She turned around and looked at him with the saddest black eyes, “always?” He saw her foot moved back as she continued. “Don’t you ever say that to me! Jack was the only one who was always there for me, and he’s not here anymore! He’ll never be here anymore!”
With that said, a second later she slowly fell back. Ross ran to her and tried to grab her. By the time he got to the edge, she was already far from his reach.
“No!” He cried out.
She heard him yell as she fell. “I am sorry, but I just want to be with him,” she whispered under her breath.
Her hand clenched onto the angel and as she closed her eyes, a smile spread across her face. “You are always there for me, I will find you. I love you Jack . . . always.”
