I have this manga called "Emerging" that's pretty freaky. I can't read it because my Japanese is worse off than a kindergardner, but you get the gyst reading what little I can and the pictures.

From what I understand,there's a sort of plague hitting the streets. (Oh, the books are fairly large for manga, too! 262 pages for both volumes.)
So it starts like this: Dude is at his sink, eyes bleeding, veins popping up. Next scene cute schoolgrils going about their girly way to school. Gossip, etc. then girl runs into the boy she likes, Ooshima-kun. He's Orland height and she's Stekkin height XD Super cute!! She hands him lunch. Awwwr, character looove development! Her name is Misaki.
So yeah, cute things, blah blah.
Back to mr. Not-looking-so-well. He ends upl exploding all bloody gore style in front of Misaki and she gets his blood on her. *fooooreshadowing much?*
Misaki's brother is a doctor or a scientist or summat and ends up trying to help all these bleeding, bloating, exploding people. Can't tell you his name because they always write it in Kanji and I can't read that stuff!!!
With more and more people getting infected he joins a research team and lots of messy things happen. Volume 2, Misaki contracts the disease

The manga mentions SARS, so I think it was inspired by the outbreak. Pretty trippy stuff!
