She sat on the bed, the phone resting in her hand, simply letting the tears pour down her cheeks. How could she feel so many emotions yet feel so empty inside at the same time? The words cut to the deepest part of her soul, and a heart-wrenching sob escaped her lips. She clapped her free hand to her mouth to silence the sound, so her parents wouldn't come in wanting to know what was wrong. The words ran through her mind, like a taunting bully.
I'm sorry, he's not here....he's left a day early...
He had left without saying goodbye. No...someone had called her....she squeezed her eyes shut and bit her lip as the truth came crashing over her like a tidal wave. Someone had called her but she was woken up by the phone....they said to call him but she knew she'd just call him later.
The person on the other end of the phone never told her that he was leaving a day early.
I never got to say goodbye to him. she thought bitterly as tears dripped onto the bedspread. All because of me and my stupidity, he left before I could say goodbye. She slammed her fist into the bed and curled up, trying to comfort herself but to no avail.
