Hello and welcome to Defense Against the Dark Arts. Please have a seat. My name is Professor Lillix, or Professor Lily as I prefer to be called. Now in my class I expect you to be well prepared. You will need several books, The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection, Defensive Magical Theory, Confronting the Faceless . Now if you wish to sign up for this class, which basically you have no choice because it is manditory for your O.W.L.s and your N.E.W.T.s I expect you to arrive on time, and complete all of the assignments. For first years this class with me a general over view of the dark arts and how to protect yourself. Second years will take a look into the basic dark creatures, third years will learn to protect themselves from intermediate dark creatures, fourth years will learn about the curses, and fifth and sixth years will learn about Dementors and Inferi and how to protect yourselves from them.

Passing Grades
O = Outstanding
E = Exceeds Expectations
A = Acceptable
Failing Grades
P = Poor
D = Dreadful
T = Troll
~ If a student was away, or had not yet joined the class for an assignment they will see " // " next to that assignment(s) under their name which means "Excused".
A student's grade will be by their name on the list of students, if you are stuggling in class feel more than welcome to come and see me for help or extra credit assignments. smile

Lesson VI:
Dementors
Dementors are foul creatures that guard the prison of Azkaban. They have many a time been in league with Lord Voldemort, and infest in dark, filthy places. They feed of hope and happiness, sucking all the joy from those around them.Its hands are "glistening, grayish, slimy-looking, and scabbed". It seems to exude cold. Even Muggles feel their presence, although they cannot see them. There are certain defenses one can use against Dementors, specifically the Patronus Charm.
Lesson V:
Werewolves
The werewolf is a most unusual creature in that it doesn't technically exist except for a brief period of time around the full moon. At any other time, a werewolf is a completely normal human. However, the term werewolf is used for both the wolf-like creature and the normal human. A werewolf comes into being when a person is bitten by another werewolf. Once this happens, the person must learn to manage the condition. Modern potion-making has come up with a draught called Wolfsbane Potion which controls some of the worst effects of the condition. A werewolf when transformed is a fearsome beast indeed. All trace of human awareness is gone and the werewolf will attack any witch or wizard, including the werewolf's best friends. This transformation is triggered when the moon is full, although there is some evidence that a werewolf who is taking a regular regimen of Wolfsbane Potion will not transform until the moonlight actually strikes him.
Lesson IV:
Grindylows
A grindylow is a pale green creature that lives in the weed beds on the bottom of lakes in Britain. It is also known as a water demon. Grindylows have long, brittle fingers which they use to grip their prey, sharp little horns, and green teeth. Some grindylows appear to have been domesticated by merpeople.
Lesson III:
Red Caps
Red Caps are small goblin-like/dwarflike creatures. They love bloodshed, and will attempt to beat to death Muggles lost in dungeons or on battlefields on dark nights. The Red Caps' main occupation is colouring their red caps, which they dye with human blood. They throw boulders on to travellers from their towers, then catch the blood in their caps. As soon as the blood dries and the colour fades, the Red Caps look for new victims. Red Caps are described as short, old elves with a sturdy build and long grey hair. They are about four feet tall and have red eyes.
Lesson II
The Boggart
A boggart is a shape shifter that prefers to live in dark, confined spaces, taking the form of the thing most feared by the person it encounters; nobody knows what a boggart looks like in its natural state. A boggart appears to feed on the emotion of fear rather than simply deploying this ability as a defense mechanism, hence its classification as a Dark creature.
Lesson I:
Vampires
Vampires are typically pale and gaunt creatures that are not considered witches or wizards. Vampires are often found in Romania and Transylvania. Centaurs greatly oppose them. Many can also be found in the Black Forest.

1.) Name at least three physical ways to distinguish a werewolf from a true wolf.

1.) Where do Grindylow's hide underwater?
2.) Who are they agressive towards?

For your assignment on the Red Caps, write in paragraph form, the answers to these questions...
1.) How do Red Caps foretell disaster?
2.) What three things discourage Red Caps?
Read 'A Field Guide to the Little People, by Nancy Arrowsmith with George Moorse' for more information on Red Caps.
Assignment II:
Please write an essay at least two inches long on your experience with the Boggart in my classroom and how it helped you conquer your worst fear.

Professor Lillix copied her notes on vampires to the bored for the students to take notes on. "I would like everyone to take notes frequently in this class, as everything I teach you has a good chance of being on your exams in June." She announced giving everyone a chance to copy down the lesson.

Professor Lily entered the classroom bright and early as her student poured into the room to take their seats. She cleared her throat loudly. "Alright everyone settle down. Now today's lesson is about Boggarts." Lily copied down her lesson on the bored and read it aloud for the class. "Now lets get to the fun part- practicing!" She annouced wiping her hands off. "Everyone get in line infront of the wardrobe. There is a boggart inside. I was you to get your arms at the ready, and when the boggart appears in the image of your worst fear you are to shout 'Riddikulous!' and imagine the boggart becoming less scary in some way." She explained.

The wardrobe burst open, and Illuminatus faced the boggart, heart pounding. A horrid, rotting corpse stumped toward him. He froze, horrorstruck as the smell of decay filled his nostrils. His eyes grew wide, and he choked out, "Riddikulus!" The boggart stumbled backward, rotting lips covered in lipstick, while heavy makeup, big hair and low-cut dress conveyed the image of a rather debilitated Paris Hilton. Illuminatus chuckled weakly, but with genuine mirth, and promptly averted his eyes to avoid throwing up.

Iridessa stepped forward anxiously, her beautiful raven hair falling from its loose bun around her shoulders. She took a deep breath and raised her wand just as the boggart took the apperance of a bat. She concentrated as hard as she could imagining the bat in a bird's nest just like any other flying creature and with a burst of courage she shouted "Riddikulus!" And the bat snapped into a boggart again.

Audrey stepped up to the wardrobe confidently as the boggart, in the shape of a rabid wolf burst out of it. Audrey soon began to feel light headed but she fought it and shouted "riddikulus!" The once rabid wolf turned into a middle aged hippie. Audrey suddenly burst into uncontrollable laughter whilst the boggart returned into the wardrobe.

"Nice work Audrey!" Lily grinned impressed. "You're all doing excellent." She chimed edging the next student in line forward.
Iridessa tucked her wand back into her robes silently. She felt out of place being the only Ravenclaw. She tugged her book tighter to her chest. Watching students defeat the boggart with laughter.

Illuminatus smiled his lopsided grin and saluted with his wand. "You did better. I don't exactly handle corpses well. I watched too much CSI in the muggle world." He looked at Iridessa. "A Ravenclaw, eh? I was considered for that house. You did well also. I guess I just don't handle fear well..." He trailed off ruefully. "But I am rather good at nonverbal casting and wandless magic."
