Intro:

Charles Xavier sat at a table in a nice restaurant. He was taking with Remy LeBeau, who had the alias. . .Gambit. "The world is in peril Remy" The Professor spoke, only pausing to drink his tea. Remy took a bite of his steak and looked up. "Well. . .I can see that, its on the news evryday. . " Remy spoke softly. He didnt want to startle the Humans around. Remy was a mutant, with the ability to kinetically charge objects . .usually to an explosive result. Xavier looked at him. "The world needs its heros' Gambit. . " He spoke with a glint in his eye. All of a sudden, using his psychic powers, Gambit was thrown into a corner and an explosion ripped through the restaurant. . . . .As the smoke cleared, Xavier's lifeless body, was sprawled in the middle of the floor. . .Gambit walked over and picked up, what looked like the outline of a bat. . .He crushed it in his hand and sank to his knees. . .His mentor was dead. . . .

A few blocks away Stands a building unlike any other. Stark Tower. Home of the New Avengers. About five mintues before Charlie's death there had been small explosions near that area. The New Avengers, Captain America (Steve Rogers), Iron Man (Tony Stark), Wolverine (Logan), Spider-man (Peter Parker), Luke Cage, and Spider-woman (Jessica Drew), were talking about things that had happined the last few days when this started to happin. They were out and on there way but it was too late. When they got to the building Gambit and Prof. X were all they say was Gambit.
"What happin!?" Wolverine Screamed at Gambit as he saw Charles Xavier's body. He then grabbed Gambit "WHAT DID YA DO!"
Luke Cage and Captain America grabbed Logan and tried to pull him off Gambit.

Gambit's comment didn't effect Logan much mostly because to Logan Charles had died infront of him. Charles ment a lot to everyone and his death would be heard around the world. Logan smelled the air. "They're still near!" He said to the others. He then ran off.
"Logan!" Captian America said. "Sh*t!"
The whole group but for Spider-woman took off. Captian America and Luke Cage were on foot just like Logan but they could not see the Canadian. He was so in rage that he climbed a building just so he wouldn't lose the scent of them.
Right after they left Spider-Woman looked at Gambit "Are you okay?" She asked.

"Lacy please, I need to finish this report."
"Jake, you've been locked up in this office for days now. You have a family back home that needs you, please...let me take you out for dinner and then you can spend the night in a warm house with a family that needs you." She wrapped a coat around the man's shouldes and he sighed.
"You're right, these reports can wait, it's not like any of them can be presented until Thursdays meeting anyways. This mutant threat is getting out of hand, thats why I worry about you when you go out Lacy."

The woman waltzed out of the office. In her arms, reports. The Senator wouldn't be found until the next day, everyone had left the office early. Another supporter of the Anti-Mutant Movement gone. He had been a supporter of a lot of things, Mutant registration, The Cure, all the things that, had he stayed out of, would have saved his life. On the outside she was an attractive blonde woman, on the inside however, she was a Mutant. A deadly one at that.

Unlike many, Mystique could very well live a normal life. She could be whomever she wanted, do whatever she wanted. But there was only one life she wanted to live, and that was her own. She was a Mutant, and that was something she was not about to deny. There was no shame in it. But the Homo Sapiens tried to make them believe it was wrong. And that was why she fought. Not because she hated humans, but because the humans hated them.

She tilted her head slightly to look at the man, and clutched the papers closer to her, like any frightened girl would. And why wouldn't she be scared, there was a man...actually a bat. "No thanks...I...I don't live far." Was this the famous Batman? He didn't look like much, but she knew better then to judge people by their costumes.

After all...look at what Wolverine prances around in. Yellow spandex...Alright, so maybe she hadn't seen that spandex in a while, but that was the point, he might look like a sissy, but she knew he was much more then that.

"Look kind sir....I appreciate the offer, but you don't need to worry about me..." She looked at the man. His offer was tempting, but she wasn't worried about being one of the people disappearing. Whoever was silly enough to try something would learn their mistake quickly.

"Look....Batman..or whatever you're called...really, I'll be alright. There are bad guys out there who need your attention...don't bother with a girl like me..."

She had all the copies. All the papers, all the disks with the info. Everything involving the Mutant Registration Act was hers. She sped up her walk, and when she was sure she was clear she took on a different form, a brunette this time. Just in case Bat boy came back.

And then a thought hit her, and she ducked down another alley. In an empty metal trash can she dumped the papers, and then lit them on fire. And then she changed again, this time to the image of a woman on the streets, using the burning materials in the trash can for warmth. She still had the disks, that wasn't a problem. No paper. No questions.

"I don't need your charity." She knocked the wad of bills from his hand, scattering them on the ground. She didn't know who this man was, or what he wanted. Why her? Why would she be the one some rich guy tried to offer charity to? Was she just lucky? Mystique had no idea Joker had been watching.
