Does anyone have any idea what this line means in series 7, the episode Never leave Me?
Spike is chained up in the basement and Buffy is talking to him.
Buffy said "i saw your penance", and Spike replies "window-dressing!"
What the hell did that mean?

I don't recall that off the top of my head....
I'd have to know more about the context in which it was said and what was going on around them.
I kinda think if I remember right. That she was trying to tell him that she could see he was trying to make up for being bad in the past.
And his response was saying that he wasn't really making up for anything, that he couldn't make up for what he had done. Like no matter what he did, it would just be "Window Dressing". He still had to live with everything he had done in the past....
Just my thought without going back and watching the espisode.

atrixa Yeah, I kinda thought that too, but it was just such a weird comment... Yeah, but wasn't Spike kind of wacked out at that time anyway... That was all when The First was messing with him wasn't it?

Buffy didn't question it, though, which was why I thought it odd.
