Great! they should make ones for all books!
  Good! I like them
So so- Depends on the book
Bad! they should write there own damn material!

(I couldn't decide whether or not to put this in film or books so I put it in the main forum)

There's been a lot of chat about Books being turned into movies. What I want to know is what do you think of it? Are the books improved by their movie counterparts, are they harmed or are they unaffected? In the case of harry potter, what do you think about all of the little things such as the storylines with fred and George, Ron's older brothers and Peeves that were left out of the movies? What do you think of LOTR?

Personally, most movies made from books haven't really appealed to me as much once I have read the book, with the exception of Jane Austen's Emma. For those of you who have seen the movie, she is much more charming in the movie and really quite bratty in the book. I was particularly upset with harry potter because so many of my favorite tidbits were left out.

Yeah, the harry potter movies suck if you've read the series, but those who don't read the books actually think that the movies are quite good. But they DO leave a helluva lot out of the movies.

The only movie that I've seen that was based off a book was the Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. I read the book first and then saw the movie and they were actually quite similar. Nothing like the Harry Potter movies and books. They kept a lot of details in the movie.

I was really disappointed with the fifth Harry Potter movie. My friend and I saw it on opening night while we were on vacation by the Cape and we were looking forward to seeing it soooo much. And everyone was making such a big deal about how the fifth movie was soooo much darker and scarier than the other movies, blah blah blah.... Sure, it had a certain amount of darkness, but the I think the fourth movie was the scariest so far.

I think that most movies that started out books are very disappointing. I mean, unless I haven't read the book yet, then when I do, the movie becomes disappointing. A movie just can't capture the same things that a book can, can't rope you in the same way. It might also have something to do with the fact that at the moment (and for the past few years) it's been all about shiny special effects in Hollywood, which cheapens actual plot.

Yeah, I agree with that, it's like the quirkiness that makes each book indvidual gets stipped out so it can fit into a main stream movie Genre. I was truly saddened when i heard the Nanny dairies movie was supposed to be compleletly untrue to the book. i mean, if you aren't gonna be true to the book, why claim to be making a movie after it?

That said, has any one seen the trailer for the new golden compass movie?
