I was wondering what Ed and Als life would be like if they didn't go through with the transmutation! I know there wouldn't be a sereis but sometimes I feel so bad for the characters because Ive gotten so attached to them! But I bet that Winry and Ed would have started dating! ^^ Go EdxWin!

Ed probably wouldnt have become a state alchemist, they probably wouldnt be so attached, Ed would be TALL! lol those are some of my predictions. and there wouldnt be EDXROY lol

In the manga, it turns out that the Humonculi are trying to create a huge transmutation circle around Amestris to sacrifice the entire population for a philosophers stone. The storyline is beginning to revolve around that, so if the brothers never went through with their transmutation, they'd just end up getting sacrificed along with the rest of the population.

They're talking about the FMA manga. Read volume 14 to find all of it out. Apparently, there are seventeen volumes in total. Three of them are in need of English translation. I searched on Japanese Amazon myself. It's fun using Japanese characters in search engines. :D
Yes, sibling rivalry, dates, school... If there was no transmutation, there would be no series for us FMA fans to watch/read. You guys should think about the reasons why things happen to understand all the things that do happen.
If you've read vol. 14's extras, you'll know that when the Elric brothers were younger, they had somewhat sibling rivalry. However, Ed (the troublemaker, as always, the person who starts the fight) apologized in the end.
