Chapter five: Of abuse and romance


"What do you mean? Of course it's not! Ami's being held at the…wait, if she's…" Kamo's gaze flitted from Ami to Exia, then back to Ami. "Exi, take her to your room and let me know the MINUTE she wakes up!" Kamo dashed down another hallway, and Exia raised an eyebrow at his mentor's strange behavior.
"Well, thanks for bringing her here, Gaioh. I can take her now." Gaioh silently deposited Ami into Exia's waiting arms, relieved that the burden was removed.
Though Ami seemed almost weightless, Exia learned from Gaioh's mistake of carrying her the whole way. He took periodic rests, until finally he returned to his 'dorm', which was in utter disarray. Grumbling, Exia laid Ami on his bed with a gasp, then sat on a stool at a small table, staring at the wall impatiently. After a while, Ami mumbled and tossed fitfully in her sleep.
"Exia…" She muttered, flailing a little and rolling over. Almost instantly, Ami whimpered fearfully, flinching as though struck. Exia sat beside her, holding Ami's shoulders and petting her hair with the other hand. The old gesture quickly calmed the girl, and she returned to sleep. Exia sighed, flopping back onto his stool wearily.
