Broken Sky
A gunshot rings out
in the cold December air
Shooting through all of our lives
Not just yours
Why?
How could you do this to yourself
And to us, as if we didn't care?
Well we did-if only we could have told you.
But it's too late for that now
Because you're gone
And all we have left
Is this incomprehensible black abyss
Like a great blanket,
Smothering the flame that once kept all our hearts warm
And leaving behind nothing but ashes
The burnt up remains of our memories
And your life.
These ashes are
All we have left now.
The only reminder
of that great dazzling light.
All we have.
We struggle to keep them,
we clench them in our fists,
But they are being blown away
By the icy winds of time and change
and the efforts of people who don't care.
One by one
They fade into our broken sky.
A gunshot rings out
in the cold December air
Shooting through all of our lives
Not just yours
Why?
How could you do this to yourself
And to us, as if we didn't care?
Well we did-if only we could have told you.
But it's too late for that now
Because you're gone
And all we have left
Is this incomprehensible black abyss
Like a great blanket,
Smothering the flame that once kept all our hearts warm
And leaving behind nothing but ashes
