Me: you were one of two people that posted on my thread about graphic novels... i made it semi obscure on purpose. so liked watchmen? i have to try to read it again. when i had the chance the guy i was with (and was trying to figure out how to kill and dispose of) wouldn't shut up about it so i didnt read it. i really should though. it's everywhere.

Magnetian: Yeah... I was really impressed by Watchmen. It starts off kind of dark, but it gives you a lot to think about. Probably the only thing that might annoy you is that it is about 'superheroes'... kind of, anyway. But really, if you meet this book on its own terms, and if it's your kind of thing, it's hard to be disappointed.

Me: you called watchmen a book (there are no smileys that smile sadly)... i can never find the words to explain to people that graphic novels are more than "Holy batarangs Batman!" and "It needs Superman" and what not. I have nothing against Marvel and DC comics but there is a lot of deep reading out there and people insist in turning their ignorant noses up. my thread just got put in the recycle bin... they said i should have placed it in the manga section its not the same at all...

Magnetian: o_O No, it's not. You might mention to them that very few, if any, manga books have been discussed in college literature courses, whereas Art Speigleman's Maus has enjoyed that privilege. Not only that, Watchmen won a Hugo award for excellency in science fiction, and its author has also earned such distinctions as the Harvey award and the Eisner award for his excellence in writing - despite, or, arguably, because of, the fact that he writes graphic novels. This genre is nowhere near as frivolous as people think. Who was behind this? I'd love to smack them down like the redheaded stepchild they are. =_=

Me: some skull headed dude. i was so upset i just deleted the message and tried to move on with more worthwhile pursuits such as starting a conversation with you. if i had a penny for every time i got the ol' "comic are stupid" rap i would be angry i didnt think of asking for something more useful than pennies...

Magnetian: Aww, man. ~_~ Maybe I should start a decoy topic so that they trash mine, too, and then I can thrash'em. But... that's too much work. XD
