drabbles.
Evie.

Title
: Evie.
Character(s): Evie Beaumont.
Word Count: 500 exactly.
A/N: My first drabble. New style of writing. Yeah, yeah.

Evie lays in her bed, bundled tightly in her blankets and trying as hard as she can to drown on the sound of her mother’s crying. This was the third night her mother cried herself to sleep. That crying was keeping Evie up. Evie understood, even at her age, how much her mother was hurting. Evie’s mom had to go through this once before. This time Evie had to go through it too. In the short time spent, a daddy’s-little-girl was made out of her. Evie loves her father and yet she hates him for doing this again. She knows that the first time, she wasn’t born yet.

This time she was feeling the full blow. The blow of being abandoned.

“He’s not abandoning us, dear. He’ll come back. He did before, he will again.”

That was what her mother would tell her. The first day she believed it, the second day she believed it, but come the third day, Evie wasn’t sure what to believe. Her mother’s words are false hopes.

Evie turns onto her side, cocooning herself in her sheets and nestling her face into the cold side of her pillow. Hearing the familiar pop of a cork, she knows what her mother is doing now. She had done it the night before and there was no doubt that she’d do it the next night as well. Teeth dig into her bottom lip as she takes in a sharp breath. Maybe when the sun rises, everything will be over. Maybe her dad will be back. Maybe her mom will be happy again. Maybe Grand Pappy will stop drinking.

Maybe she’s filling her own head with false hopes.

A crash and a yell leaves her shaking. She remembers the last time her mom drank this much. It was when he came back for the first time and when she didn’t know that he was her father. He was there to stop her though. It was up to Evie to do that now. She takes a much needed breath of air since she had been holding it in for some time. Slipping out of the bed, she takes her time making her way towards the door of her room.

Finding her way into her mother’s room, Evie laces each word with disappointment. Each word tells of how she once thought her mother was strong. Each word explains how hard she’s trying not to cry herself. Each word lets her mother know that she’ll be strong for the both of them. Even though she says she won’t cry, even though she hopes she won’t cry -- Evie cries.

Her mother stops and Evie feels the much needed warm, embrace. She clings onto the woman and finds it hard to stop crying. She doesn’t.

Evie found herself growing up. She had to be strong -- show her mother she wasn’t scared -- to let her mom know that they would be fine without James Norrington, despite how much they both need him.
