A knock echoed through her house. She tentatively walked to the front door and opened it slightly. "Hello Naminae," Nathan said softly. By then, a light rain had begun falling and was gradually picking up, soaking him to the bone. "Hello Nathan. Come in, you must be could out there," Naminae said, beckoning him inside.
Shivering, Nathan walked in. Placing a blanket around his shoulders, Naminae asked "What were you doing out there in the rain?" "I came to see you," he said, clutching the blanket tighter to his skin. Silently, he added "Because I can't stop thinking about you." "Well...I suppose because of the weather you can stay here till it passes," she said hesitantly.
Smiling slightly, he said "We could talk about the things you've been wanting to ask me since you saw me in the graveyard. Unless of course you don't feel like asking them after all." Her eyes widening, she asked "How did you know I wanted to ask about that?" "I could tell from the way your eyes glinted just now," he said as a reply.
"I suppose I do have at least one question, but it doesn't have anything to do with the graveyard," Naminae said, her eyes downcast. Cocking his head slightly to the side, he asked "And what would that be?" "I've been having these dreams of late, and I'm always running from a mob of people trying to kill me. I was wondering if you could explain to me why I keep having them or where they came from?" she asked hopefully.
Sighing, he started explaining why she had the nightmares. "It's my fault, I shouldn't have called out to you that night. I've been secretly coming to see you at unheard of hours of the night. Because of my comings, you've started having these dreams. This...has happened to many other half breeds, and all were caused by me and my shyness. If I wasn't so shy, they would still be alive and I probably wouldn't be here right now talking to you.
"If you hate me now, I can understand why. If not however, I will do all that I can to make sure no one harms you ever again," Nathan said the last part softly to himself, yet she heard it regardless. The overall shock she had had before now was washed away by what that last sentence meant to her.
He looked up to her for some inkling of what her answer would be. The clock struck ten o'clock before she said anything. "I don't hate you," Naminae whispered softly. Smiling, Nathan parted his lips to say something, but instead had her finger against them to silence him. His eyes looked questioningly into hers.
"Don't say a word," she began softly. "You may come here anytime you wish for as long as you would like. I welcome you warmly, as most friends would normally. We could sit and talk, or say nothing at all. We..." she trailed off at the end, unable to continue.
Nathan stood up and walked over to her. Tears threatened to roll down her cheeks. "Shh, I understand what you mean. You don't have to do this if you don't want to though," he said, placing his arm around her shoulder and giving it a slight squeeze.
"But I want to," Naminae said, looking up at him. "Naminae..." Nathan said sighing. She buried her face in his shoulder, letting the tears fall freely. Almost hesitantly, he placed both his arms around her shoulders. He hadn't realized her arms had already managed to make their way around his mid-back.
He stood there holding her till she calmed down. "Feeling better?" he asked softly, letting go of his hold on her. She nodded, smiling slightly as she let go of him as well. "I'm glad. Perhaps you want to head off to sleep now? I'll be here if something happens," he said calmly.
"Alright, I'll..." she couldn't finish her statement because she had been struck from behind by someone else. "Naminae!" Nathan exclaimed catching her as she fell.
