Lesson A: Never store anything important on a computer. COMPUTERS ARE NOT RELIABLE.
Lesson B: Always duplicate your data and store it off your computer. Having a back-up like a Flash drive would be wise (uses a USB port, so it's pretty easy.) Otherwise, I would suggest just printing everything, making your stuff paper, so that it's real and harder to lose.
Data Doctors couldn't restore ANY data from my crashed computer. I can't really explain the sorrow, the anger, the feeling of loss with words. . . All my digital pictures, saved conversations, word documents, favorites lists -- Gone. Things I can't redo, irreplaceable images of people who aren't alive anymore, *sighs, gets back on-topic*
How does this relate to Gaia? All CRAFTI things I saved are erased. This means: Old threads, copies of poll results, that crazy log of all the votes in the Favorites thread, and the spreadsheet I created to keep track of members' activity statuses.
*hangs head* It was utterly stupid of me not to back everything up. I'm sorry. cry
Anyone who isn't already smarter than I was - PLEASE learn from my mistakes!
NOTE: Now the computer goes to get fixed. It might take another month before I'm online. Wow, this summer's shot to h---. gonk
