Vampire Hunter D Content Warnings: Violence and Nudity

I had heard such good things about this movie. Everyone talking about how it's a good horror flick, horror is the furthest thing from it. The whole thing is just fighting with vampire cliches everywhere and monsters that just seemed to be beaten quickly.
The movie is suppose to take place in the distant future where it seems like technology no longer exsists. Like going back to the medieval period where pesky monsters roam and kill humans. One such human, a young girl named Doris, has been bitten by a big, bad vampire named Count Magnus. Only a mysterious vampire hunter named D comes in to help her (amazing how a hero always comes along just in time to help).
Character-wise this movie really is a big disappointment. D is a pretty cool character, but as for personality, he's just plain dull. Emotionless, brooding heroes are usually boring and this is no different than the others. The supporting cast is equally boring and weak. Doris is the damsel-in-distress, Dan is the stupid, impressionable youth, and Magnus is the stereotypical arch villain. The only character I actually liked was Lamika (Magnus's daughter), because she was someone I actually felt sorry for.
The movie is an older animation and the visuals are nothing to write lots about, but the artwork itself isn't too bad in some scenes. The backgrounds at the end of the movie were very nice. The dubbing was crappy they... spoke.. like.. this.. the.. whole.. freaking.. movie. Of course, the fact that Streamline originally only released a dub didn't give fans much of a choice either way.
As a horror movie, Vampire Hunter D is a piece of s**t. On the other hand, if you don't mind a cheesy vampire movie with lots of action, then you might like Vampire Hunter D.
I give this movie a 1 out of 5.
