Chante and I had grouped up together and took on the left side of the Underground Soldiers hideout. We tiptoed down a hallway. It was hard enough, to just get into the building in the first place. I was suprised we made it. "Okay where are we going?" Chante asked. She was behind me and by the way she was looking at me, showed she was tired and ready to go home.
"We need to find a report called 'Lucrecias Thesis.' It's around here somewhere. We should get to the lab." I explained to her. It wasn't much of a lab anymore. Papers and books were cluttered everywhere. Windows were broken. Dust filled the air causing us to put are hands over are mouths, coughing. It was ancient. "So very ancient." Chante said, as if she had read my mind. I nodded. This place was a complete mess. And yet so familiar.
"Alright look over there I'll look over here." I said pointing behind a row of desks at the far end.Chante nodded and walked silently over to the other side.I for instance, walked to the test tubes. Papers were piled on top of eachother and boxes were filled to the top with files. I had alot of searching to do. And who knows? This could be only 'one' of the science rooms. I opened the coffee colored box and searched through each page, until one caught my eye instantly. It said "Lauren Shelton." right on it. I shivered and opened it. There was a picture of me and numbers that I wasn't sure what it meant. I stuffed the Folder in my jacket pocket, at the bottom and went back to searching through it. There was absolutley nothing.
"Lauren...I think I found something." Chante whispered across the room to me. I got up and walked slowly to her. I grabbed the folder she was waving in her hand. It was labeled "Lucrecia crescents Experiment observations." My eyes went wide in excitement and shock at the same time. I didn't know how I felt. This was the folder of Lucy! I smiled at Chante and she saluted. I grabbed the thesis and the folder I was looking at and folded them up, so I could fit them in my pocket. "Quit that." I said with a raised eyebrow. She saluted and nodded."You did it again!" I said giggling silently. Chante shrugged and walked over to the door. "We better get going, we have 15 minutes to wait for the others to meet up with us at the waterfall." Chante said. She was right. We all agreed to meet up with eachother in 25 minutes. And if we were late they'd suspect us injured, or dead.
*****
The two of us tiptoed through the hallway quickly and quietly. Until all of a sudden Shelke came walking down the hallway. We froze."Crap." Chante whispered and we began tiptoeing backwards. "Chante you run to the waterfall I'll handle her." I said. Chante shook her head. "Hell no, I am helping you." Chante said and she jumped out in front of Shelke. "Uh Oh." I thought. Chante aimed her guns at Shelke and Shelke took out her sabers, her eyes glowing a orange fire. The red light vortex began to glow through the windows. This is what hell probally looked like. Shelke jumped towards Chante angrily, her sabers clashing into her guns. Chante jumped back, her hands almost being slit off.
"lightning!" I declared, and pushed my hand out at Shelke, electricity bolted at her. "Leave this place!" Shelke glared angrily." Maybe we should listen to her." I mumbled. Chante looked at me and sighed. "Run for it." She said.We both looked at eachother and bolted towards the building door. Shelke sped towards us.I kicked off of the door and flipped over her. Chante kicked her leg beneath Shelke causing her to collapse."Go go go!" Chante yelled. the two of us ran out the door, running as fast as we could. "Why didn't we bring transportation?" Chante asked bitterly. I shrugged. "Because I guess, this is good excersise?" I replied. Then I felt the air get knocked out of me and I fell over onto the ground. I got dizzy, everything was blurry, and spinning. I could barely see Chante, who was still running down the road, probally not even noticing me on the ground in pain. I didn't care, she had to get out of here.
I got up on all fours, putting a hand to my head. I looked around and then a foot kicked me clear in the face, knocking me back to the ground. Blood dripped from my mouth, I had a cut on the inside of my cheek from my fangs. This wasn't Shelke, since Shelke was a foot in front of me. Her eyes were a crystal blue and She looked some what of a 11 year old. A normal human being. I growled, trying once more to get up. It was Rosso the Crimson. I hissed, and got to my feet." Well, well,....It's Lauren the Calectrican..." She said smiling. I glared. Where was Chante when I needed her? I unwrapped my pink ribbon from my neck and wrapped it around my hands. I whipped it at Rosso angrily. But she sped behind me. I jumped out of the way of her, so she wouldnt kick me again.
" Aren't we confident?" Rosso put a hand on her hip and grinned. She walked slowly towards me. She shoved me in the shoulder, and I got dizzy again, my feet just couldn't support me anymore. I fell to my knees, feeling defeated. Rosso had done something to me when she had knocked me to the ground the first time. My eyes went wide in suprise, my veins were the color of black."What did you do!?" I hissed. Rosso put a hand over her mouth laughing.
"It's only temporary my dear." She replied. She lifted her leg over my back and kicked me down. I cried out. She dug her heel deep into my spine. Then suddenly, I could hear a faint bang of a gun. My hearing didn't function well, and I couldn't breath. But I felt, Rosso jump off me and ran away with Shelke. There was someone here, who must have scared them off. Everything was in fast motion besides my heartbeat. That was probally the only thing I could hear. And then I felt someone lift me up off the ground.
" Lauren are you okay?" Chante asked." Lauren....can you hear me...?" She added. I took in a deep breath, and looked up just a bit to see who was carrying me. "Lauren are you okay!?" Haleigh snapped her fingers in front of my eyes. The guys stood behind her, looking at me worry-stricken. The whole group was here, and that only meant one thing. Vincent was indeed carrying me. I saw his crimson eyes look down on my face. "Put her down, once we get to the waterfall, the soldiers left it a while ago. We need to clean her up." Raphielle exclaimed. Vincent just carried me in wedding form , down the road passed the building. My hearing was coming back, and I could move a bit. I could even talk. "Just put me down...I think I can walk." I mumbled. Vincent hesitated for a moment but reluctantly put me down slowly. I used his arms as support to stay up, incase.
"Are you feeling better?" Chante asked. I nodded, and smiled. Then I remembered the Lucy thesis and took it out imediately. Vincent snatched it from my hands and flipped through it. "Geeze...." I mumbled. I rubbed my head and groaned." Major headache." Haleigh laughed. I gave her the "im gonna kill you" look and crossed my arms. Haleigh stopped laughing and turned around to look at something else. "We should head to the W.R.O headquarters right away...." Vincent said in a mono-tone voice. I looked at him and sighed. I didn't know if I was going to stay upset with him or not. I guess it was just very hard for me to. I thought I could hold a grudge. I thought wrong. My ribbon was still wrapped around my fingers and so I unwrapped them and coiled it back around my neck, where it should be. I must have been lost in thought, since everyone had got up and was walking away. Vincent froze, and looked at me.
"Lauren..?" He said. I looked up at him quickly and shook my head. "Sorry, must have spaced out." I apologized and got up. I walked quickly towards Haleigh and Chante, who once more was caught up in a huge conversation. "Lauren..." Vincent mumbled, and grabbed hold of my wrist. I raised an eyebrow and looked at him. "Are you okay?" He asked. I frowned in disapointment. I thought he was going to say sorry about earlier. Why did I even care?! Not like I had feelings for him or anything....right? right!?
"Yeah im fine, just a little dizzy from earlier." I replied softly. Vincent nodded. "We should go with the group." Vincent exclaimed, his voice sounding less mono-tone and more feeling. I nodded, and tryed to smile. I ran behind Haleigh and Chante. "Oh my god, you should so definitley meet are family. Well not really a blood related family. Were just a huge group of friends, and were really close!." Haleigh giggled. "Maybe I can come along with you, if your not too busy." Chante said smiling. I laughed. "I am sure your not going to be busy for quite a while." I assured.
****
An hour later, I entered Reginas house once more. No one was home. I dialed Tigers number, she didn't answer. Chante was just looking through the building and hanging out in the backyard at times. I decided to relax. there wasn't much else to do really. The guys decided to stay at the W.R.O building, besides Vincent, who I think just went to Seventh Heaven to be bored. No one was looking so I took out the folder with my name on it and flipped through it once more. "What does this mean...?" I asked myself,in a whisper. The numbers were just so confusing. Then there was a knock at the door, and I looked at the entrance of the house imediately. I stood up, and tucked the folder beneath the couch cusion. I went to the honey colored door, and opened it. It was Vincent.
"May I come in?" He mumbled. I raised a eyebrow, suprised to see him here. "Why exactly are you here?" I asked. Vincent opened his mouth to say something, but shut it. Then he said ,"I was wondering if I could spend the night. Seventh Heaven is out of guest rooms. And Regina doesnt care if anyone comes here, since she has like 7 guest rooms." I smirked and looked at him for a moment. Are eyes locked for just a second, then I turned my head and blushed a bit. "Umm, yeah come in. But if Regina complains about you sleeping here, I am not being blamed, okay?" I exclaimed. Vincent nodded and entered the house, his gold titanium shoes making a tap each step he took on the wooden floor. Hours seemed to fly by, as night krept over Midgar.
I sighed, looking out the window, the sun was gone and a moon was shining brightly over. "I am going to go to bed, Vincent. You should too, we may have another mission tomorrow." I said shyly. Vincent was reading a book at the dining room table. It was on Calectrican history. He didn't even look up at me once, and just flipped the page. I frowned and turned around, walking towards one of the guest rooms. "Lauren..." Vincent said softly. I turned my head to him, my frown still pasted on my face. "I am sorry about earlier. I sort of read your mind most of the day, and you were upset with me, and I am not sure why. And I won't ask." He sighed. I turned my full attention to him now, biting my bottom lip, embarassed.
"We can still be friends right? Besides, it was only a misunderstanding..." Vincent added on. "Yeah, just a misunderstanding." I replied, a small smile coming to my lips.I put my hands behind my back, picking at my fingernails, and swaying back and fourth. "It must have been some party." I said, laughing a little to myself. Vincent nodded, closing the book he was reading, leaving a ribbon that was attached to the binding inside of the page he was on. He just looked at me. I flushed a shade of pink. It was the most uncomfortable feeling, when someone just stares at you blankly, or just staring at all.
"You said 'I was tired, maybe I wasn't thinking." I declared, pointing a accusing finger at him. "Well I guess I wasn't thinking when I said that, hmm?" Vincent said back. He had no expression, besides his eyes. His eyes were smiling, I could see that easily."Oh so you were thinking? I'm not suprised. Your a thinker." I yawned. "You should go to sleep. I can see dark circles under your eyes." Vincent pointed out. I smiled, and shook my head. "Everytime we start a conversation, you seem to stop it right away. Why is that?" I asked. Vincents cheeks turned to a light shade of red. "Oh my god hes blushing!" I thought enthusiastically. "I am not blushing." Vincent mumbled. I rolled my eyes. "I don't mind talking to you. But you should know as much as anyone, that I don't socialize much." I laughed to Vincents answer. "How would I know any better?!" I giggled.
"Wev'e known eachother forever...So I'd think you'd know me like the back of your hand." Vincent answered. Vincent stood up from the table, and took a few steps towards me. I walked into the guest room, I was going to sleep in, and sat on the bed. Vincent followed, staying at the door, and leaned up against it. "Yeah I guess, I do...." I sighed. I knew Vincent far too well, from his history, to his feelings. "Goodnight Vincent." I stood up and walked towards him. He stood up straight and I gave him a hug. His shoulders tensed. "Lauren-" I cut him off with, "Im sorry, I didn't mean to show affection." In a sarcastic tone. Vincent closed his eyes, and looked down." Did I hurt his feelings?"I thought sadly.
"No, you didn't." Vincent answered my thoughts, directly. I smiled. "Youve got to stop doing that." I said playfully. He turned around. "Goodnight Lauren." He said, and walked away, turning off all the lights in the house, and going to his guest bedroom. I closed my door, and got dressed quickly into a red nightgown, that I kept in a guest drawer, that Regina lended me. I crawled into the satin covers of the bed and buried my head in the pillow. I blushed, and chewed on my nail giggling to myself. "He said sorry!"
