I was walking through the mountains of our new home. Low tree branches blocking my way. Cuts on my arms from the sharp ends up of leaves and twigs. Unfortunately, I had to admit that this hike was long. My feet killing me every step I take. I’ve been finding my way around this mountain since dawn. I breathed in and the air here, it just seemed so fresh. Never had I noticed the difference of clean air and bad air. This island seems much more mysterious now that the group and I got stuck in it. I kept hiking on the mountain, picking up branches and twigs that have fallen off the trees. It could be used for a fire I thought. I heard a sound from behind me. Startled, I dropped everything I had in my arms and followed my first instinct. Run. Adrenaline rushed into my system. I was running faster than I ever had in my whole life. The thoughts flying in and out of my head. Is this mountain really that dangerous? Will there be a need for weapons? My running ceased when I felt I was out of danger. Exhausted, I fall to the ground. I just lay there, looking up at the blue sky. Trees blocking the sun from hitting my eyes directly. If I could climb the tree I could probably see most of the island. What if I reached the top of the mountain? Maybe I should. I spent about five minutes debating the idea in my head. I got up and started heading back where I came from. I stopped myself. “I need a weapon…” I mumbled, looking around the area. I finally found a reliable and light branch. It wasn’t much but I needed something to feel safer. I started my journey once up the mountain again, hoping I would make it before nightfall. It seemed like hours of walking and I rested only now and then. I had to make it to the top. I needed to know what I would see. Finally, just before sundown, I made it. I sat on the ground as I was staring at awe. No word could describe the greenery of the forest and the beauty of the ocean from a distance. I knew I would see things differently when we crashed on this island. I knew that I would change. This freedom I feel here is beyond compare. I can smell the fresh air that past me and flowed through my hair. The green grass I sat on was cool and soft. My aching feet were delighted to be resting. I groaned, I have to walk a long way back.
