I hear a ding from the laptop and abruptly look up. Somebody IMed me.
Hey, still alive?
"Are you ok?" I hear somebody say, unsure of the source. Apparently, I had gasped relatively loudly.
"Yeah, I'm fine." It's a reflex response, but at least it isn't a complete lie. The chatter on the phone continues as I redirect my attention back to the IM window. Another soft smile spreads across my face when I see the name. I reply as quickly as possible.

Ugh. Blunt and impatient, as usual. rolleyes

I have to think about it for a while, but I'm interrupted by impatient conference members.
"Hey Jasmine, I thought you were the one who wanted to talk. Why are you so quiet?" Ivy asks suspiciously.
"And I hear the sound of a keyboard. Who are you IMing? Who's even on this early in the morning?" Anastacia was always good at recognizing computer sounds. Others were agreeing when there was another ding. This time, it was something else. I was being invited to an IM conference. Hoping there wasn't anybody that would go total mushy mode, I accepted and saw that there were already at least 6 people there. Dang, I didn't think this many people would be on the computer so early... I couldn't help but be surprised.
"Sorry! You know me and distractions. It's just somebody who wanted to talk. I'm paying attention to you guys, too!" Hopefully I'm convincing.
"Uh huh. What are we talking about, then?" Ivy knows me a bit too well.
"Fine, so I'm not paying attention. Just keep talking, k? I like hearing the sound of your voices," I try something cheesy to see if it'll make them leave me alone for a little bit.
"Wow and you thought I was corny." The smile is obvious in Carlos' voice and they start laughing and making fun each other's cheesiness. Thank goodness, I think and sigh quietly in relief, looking back at the other conference which has already started filling with comments. I have to scroll up to get to the beginning. Unfortunately, they've all kept their color to black so I have to read the names to know who's talking. The first comment is, of course, the girl who started this: Raine.
