Ceria wrapped her dark cloak around herself tighter to stave off the chill in the air. The fire she had built was poor. But effitient enough to give light. That's basically what it was good for. Unfortunate...
She looked at the egg in her hand and held it close to the fire. The pathetic fire wasn't even hot. So she just held the egg above the small flames in her hand. She thought it was the most curious thing ever. What kind of egg is it if it was blue one second and bright green the next? Odd, yet...strangely enough, on some level of feeling, it made sense. Like the colors actually reflected the mood or something.
Suddenly it faded to purple with her oncoming, silent excitement. She couldn't wait for it to hatch. "Well..." Ceria said. "This one can't believe I'm talking to an egg...but there is no one else around..." And she sighed still in admiration of it's color changing ability. It moved just a little in her hand. And through the light of the fire, a form could be seen.
Derran stepped throung the murky bush of the wilderness. This forrest was much deeper than he thought. He was already two days behind his destination. He actually should be there by tomorrow, but there was no end in sight. He sighed helplessly. At least he was getting some excercise.
When he took his next step he heard a squisy noise. It was small, and faint. But it matched with something he felt under his foot. He rolled his eyes, and dropped his head to see what, on this plane of existance, he'd stepped in. Indeed it was what he'd anticipated, but not needed. A fecies extraction from some small animal. He grabbed a leaf from a near by bush and used it to whipe it off.
A rustling sound nearby caught Ceria's attention. She put the egg back into her small side pack hidden in her cloak. She looked about and saw nothing. She closed her eyes and sensed a form in the direction of the noise. She put her hood on and put out the fire with a bucket of water.
It made more noise than she's wanted. She winced at the sound it gave off. She'd better move fast.
Derran looked around to find the sorce of the hissing. He thought it was an animal but it sounded more like a simmering fire. His curiousity told him to investigate. What wonders would he find in this dense darkness?
