My own shadow, which was camouflaged by darkness, proceeded to enter my calm and dreary thoughts. Hearing the noise once again, I moved the warm covers from my bed and sat up. I stared at my blackened walls which, without the slightest glimmer of light within them, seemed invisible. My nightgown flowed with my body as I walked down my iron stairway, which creaked ever so slightly as I stepped upon it. Even though there was a tiny light in the room, the stairs seemed almost unreal, but I had known better. Taking every individual step seemed wasteful, but I know better than that. I needed to keep my secret safe. Finally reaching the last step, the cause of the sound identified itself as a man in my living room, where I had reached. I know who this person is, but he unfortunately has stepped into my house and I have no intention of keeping him alive. He, my so-called “stealthy intruder,” was aware that I was there, glaring at him with my blood-red eyes. I could hear him footsteps getting closer and I let him point his gun at me. I knew that he was afraid of me; I could feel him shaking from the vibrations in the floor. I could only grin. My fangs glowed white and I crushed the gun in my hand. He, in spite of his courageous effort to get inside, was now so scared that he stumbled backwards. I pinned him to the floor, my hands crushing his shoulders. His frantic face is etched in my memory as he tried to escape and push me away. I remember getting close to his neck, as I had done with countless others; I felt his panicked breath on my cheek. My fangs bit into him, hitting a major artery. I took his life and his blood. This always happens; I can never be “normal,”…
