Wow, so the last time I posted in here was forever ago...

But anyway. I'm baking and I wanted to write about that. I want to learn how to bake things and I got a bunch of supplies and ingredients for Christmas this year, so why not?

The first thing I made was chocolate chip cookies. They're supposedly "blue ribbon" according to the cookbook I got, but I don't know... The author said to only make substitutions where, when and what he says is ok on the page for that recipe, and for the cookies, he said it could be replaced with any other chip. Well, we had semi-sweet chocolate chips and reese peanutbutter chips, so we used those, 2 cups of the semi-sweet and 1 cup of the peanutbutter.

I don't know if I left them in too long or what but they're really dry and crumbly. I don't like them. The next batch I made (the dough makes enough for 24 cookies, we can cook 6 at a time in our oven), I added 2 eggs, cause I was told that that's a good way to moisten them up. They came out huge and the cookie was more like cake than cookie. I didn't like that either. Since the eggs were already added to the whole bowl, I haven't made any more cause I know I don't like them. sad What a waste. sad

Tonight, I'm trying apple crumble. It seemed fairly easy. The crumble part was easy and fun, I liked making that. The filling... Not so much. I've never used cloves in anything before, so when I opened the container, I put it up to my face and sniffed. I'm still reeling from the headache that gave me, and my stomach has been turning the whole time. Won't do that again...

Then came the apples. The recipe calls for 6 apples, peeled and thinly sliced. Well, me and my trusty paring knife got through all 6 apples, but it took us a good hour just for that part. My back, hips and legs did not like that part... It's still cooking, so I don't know how it's going to taste. As far as I can remember, I haven't even had this before.
