Tad Ryerstad, of course.
For those that don't know, it's a comic book character. He's basically the poor (and crazy) man's Punisher; the dumb Batman. The kid with anger issues that named himself "Nite-Wing" as a result of seeing an all-nite chicken wing place outside his window when he decided to become a vigilante. The charactyer himself was wonderfully psychotic, and entirely single-minded in his devotion to the cause of righteousness. He was a parody of the Punishers, the Jason Todds, and all of those characters that are supposed to be good, but really aren't. In addition, I loved RPing him as a result. He was fairly outside my 'safe zone', and as a result, I could revel in playing the good bad guy, the anti-hero who didn't get it.
Of course, all of this is immaterial if one doesn't have a place to play, which I did. For years, I used Kapow! as Tad's staging ground for all his tomfoolery; he was a foil, a detective, a villain, and a hero. All of this culminated in his "death" this past March as a result of his self-promotion as the President of Kapow!. Admittedly, I had nowhere else to go with the character; virtually everyone in the guild didn't like (at best) Tad anymore, so it was time for him to go.
Of course, you never realize what you have until it's gone.
Tad, looking back, was more than an RP character, he was my vent for all the "unresolved issues of rage" at the state of comics I tend to have, or really, any venting that needed done in Kapow!. Or if I wanted to call someone on something, I used Tad, the other RP characters I have are either not well-known enough, or just don't have that type of personality.
Now, I know Tad is just an RP character; he can be brought back on a whim, with little more than "he got better" as an explanation. But I'd hate that; it wouldn't be true to the character, if that makes sense. Unfortunately he was my most human of RP characters; at least as of now, is the most permanent of endings he could have received. And like I said before, there wasn't much else that could be done.
Ah well, I suppose I'll stop rambling here and just raise a glass. To Tad; the most fun psycho I've read, and best RP character I've ever had. Adios, amigo.
