tonight, friday, may 1st 8:35pm, my sister, emily, and i almost died.
we came one foot from death.
we were coming back to my town from elkton maryland, on the 272 highway. we were coming up to the last intersection before the community college.
my sister was going the speed limit and we were about to cross the intersection at flying j.
a tractor trailer in the turning lane opposite us began to turn right as the light turned yellow and we passed the white 'stop here or you're in the intersection' line.
we swerved in a half a**-ed left turn, around the turning front end of the trailer, going over the small raised triangle that directs traffic turning right out of the flying j.
then we were seconds away from smashing into the middle of the trailer.
my sister screamed a 'jesus christ!' before swinging us into a right turn back towards the curb. only then did my vocal cords become un-frozen and i screamed.
we continued a sort of swerving motion until the car was no longer fish-tailing and my sister pulled onto the bike lane as i burst into tears.
Friday, May 1st. My older sister and I nearly died. forever will i remember 8:35 pm.
