“I must apologize for my recent absence. Gaia University just partnered with the Lanzersonian Museum to find rare artifacts, and my proposal to locate the “Nekonomicon” was approved. The Nekonomicon is an ancient and magical text said to hold the hidden history of universe. While this claim is absurd, it might contain information lost to the sands of time. It has been a wish of my family that one of us might someday find it.
My original research into Evolving Items and the Barton Cliffs crater was spurred by my wish to try and find a common energy signature that might be shared with the Nekonomicon. With this information I would be able to build a device capable of tracking down a surviving copy of the Nekonomicon, as it is a magical construct and not just a normal book.
While my proposal was accepted, I will have to wait until funds become available, so I decided to accompany a professor in an archeological dig. Dr. Abdul Hazred is also searching for the Nekonomicon, but he believes the location might be found within ancient tombs left by those who worshipped the Old Gaia Gods, while I believe it would be located in a private collection. I went with Dr. Hazred in hopes if it was once there, a clue to its location might have been left behind.
The tomb was of a ruler whom called himself a god in olden times. He was said to have incredible abilities and ruled with an iron fist. When he died, the book was buried with him. When the tomb was uncovered, it was found to have been broken into recently, and many of the treasures were looted. The walls of the tomb were inscribed with ancient writings that Dr. Hazred translated.
“Here lies the bed of our living god, Al Afiz. Those who seek his greatest treasure will find nothing but dread. The only one who is worthy must hear the word of our god.”
Dr. Hazred explained that the rulers name meant “sound of the night” and might be a clue to finding the books original position in the tomb. The robbers had left behind most of the tools used to open the tomb, so I collected them to try and find a vendor eventually. Dr. Hazred gathered the remaining artifact and made copies of all writing inside the tomb.
After many weeks of examining the tomb, we were ready to return home. I went to a bazaar to see what exotic items were for sale. I purchased two things. One was a spider creature called a "Classilke", which was said to create clothing for its owner. I also bought an old mask from a "Masquerade" ball. It seemed to emanate the same energy I was looking for when I took the Kottan Bell.
While I was on my trip I left my new friends in Mr. Buch's, the bookstore owners, care. Kink came with me on my trip. He really grew into a fine helper, but refused to actually enter the tomb, possibly because of residual energy left behind by the Nekonomicon. Or he just hates creepy places…”
