This is kinda a different take on the roleplay 'Clockwork' but it has the same basic structure...
Story
Welcome to the year 2385. It has been almost 200 years since the Earth was destroyed in a cataclysmic event. No one alive now knows the cause of the Earth's complete destruction; the precious records chronicling the event were lost in humanity's effort to escape. Our race was nearly destroyed that day. And, if it wasn't for a few brave, but unexpected colonists, we might not exist now.
Welcome to Dust, the new home of the human race. Pop. 60,000. Dust is a small, desert planet, roughly the same size as Earth was. Deadly sandstorms, fierce lightning storms and monsoons rage across it's surface without mercy. Now, because of the deadly weather, disease and predators, only a small population of humans remain, relying on what little of the technology that the proud human race once had to survive. But they are not the only ones fighting for survival...
There have also been reports of strange signs of alien life, signs of sapient life. A few travelling human nomads have brought back stories that there is (or once was) intelligent alien life on Dust. Alien words carved into craggy rock faces, winding caves filled with discarded metal. Though, the most significant tale is the rumor about advanced alien technology. There is no proof, of course, but there are many individuals who would be willing to part with vast amounts of money to get some information. But then, there are just as many people willing to take it from them...
These humans aren't the same as the Humans of Old Earth. There have been mutations, little 'blips' in the human genetic code. Their skin has grown steadily darker over the years (it still varies from tan to deep brown) and their hair color varies from brown to black to blonde. There are also more... unusual mutations. These kinds of alterations are few and far between; very few humans even realize that they exist. Most of the time, even the carriers usually have no idea about their ability. These so-called 'powers' are very small in scale and exaust the user both mentally and physically when used but, hey, that's the price of survival, isn't it?
This is where your story begins. You have recently recieved a letter, signed by an individual known only as Abraham. He has requested your particular skills and abilities to assist with a... rather lucrative assignment. He wants solid, undeniable evidence that there was once intelligent alien life on Dust. He wants their fabled technology. And, as a minor incentive, he has promised a vast amount of zett to any who accept his offer. You have a week to get your things in order and travel to New London. He will be waiting for you there.

Other Information
Lifestyle: Most of the humans on the planet are clustered in tight knit villages, relying on one another for support when times are rough. These villages often have an outer wall and five to ten various buildings that were made out of scrap metal scavenged from the spaceships that their ancestors used to arrive on the planet. Villagers are suspicious of strangers but will welcome them in their homes as a general rule of courtesy. There are a few nomads, travelling in small groups of two or three. They will visit villages occasionally to resupply but otherwise that, they spend all of their time in the desert. And then, there are raiders but you'll learn more about those fellows later on. The main currency is the zett and they come in 1, 5, 10, 25, an 50 zett coins rather than bills. The barter system is still widely used and metal or services can be exchanged for zett.
Climate: Dust is a desert planet and therefore, the temperatures are scorching in the day. The nights are actually cold though, reaching below freezing on the really chilly evenings. There are severe weather patterns. Thunderstorms and sandstorms during the 'warm' season and the rare monsoon in the wet season. Most of the planet's surface is covered in sand and craggy rock but there are also very rich deposits of an alien metal ore beneath the crust. There are small polar ice caps and there is one sea situated in a band that wraps completely around the equator.
Animals: There are tons of strange little critters on Dust but to keep this short, I'm only going to touch on three main ones. 1. The Bolworm: These creatures are essentially giant, horse-sized caterpillars with large sets of down-turned horns. They are herbivores and docile in nature, occupying a slot similar to the cow but their uses are far more profound. These creatures can be ridden for astounding distances, providing that you are not in a large hurry, their near-impenetrable carapace can be pulled off after they die and used as armor and they make vast amounts of silk to make clothing out of. 2. The Lizret: Little ferret-like creatures with large rabbit ears. Their bodies are long and round like a lizard's and their skin is a mixture of soft scales and fur. They are very agile and make good pets when tamed. 3. The Sheth: Giant shark creatures that hunt in the sky. These guys are Dust's top predator, so beware. They are as long as two Semi trucks and are actually very wide and thin (if that makes any sense at all), allowing them to catch the air currents with their manta ray-like wings. They have startlingly good eyesight and their sense of smell is unmatched. They will attack prey by literally crashing themselves into the ground with their mouths gaping so they can snap up tasty morsels.
If you have any other questions, PM me. I don't bite!
