Born into life a cage is all I know;
Seeing nothing but the bars that surround me.
Through my ignorant eyes sadness is low;
Blinded at birth from true reality.
Looking through the bars the truth is now there.
Birds can fly free without the binding cage.
I can fly? I can sing? There is freedom fair.
Nothing has changed despite all that I wage.
But the bars do bend and my will is strong.
The long sought freedom is now mine to claim.
I fly and sing gladly, though it is wrong.
Yet sadly my faith in freedom does wane.
So long as society blocks my way,
Life is sad, the cage consumes me everyday.
