Chapter 1
My life started going down the drain the day I got marked. It was a beautiful day; the sun was even out, though I couldn’t really tell because I was coughing so much. I had begged my parents to let me go to school today even though I was sick because it was my 15th birthday, and I wanted to celebrate with my friends. I got to school and my friends were happy to see me and wished me a happy birthday. “Happy Birthday Ember,” my friends squealed, “your finally 15!” “Thank you everyone,” I managed to say before descending into another coughing fit. I managed to get through my classes till lunch and I headed down the hallways to the hall my friends and I had claimed as our own and used during lunch. When I got there, I was surprised and happy. My friends had asked their teachers if they could leave class a little early and they had headed down the hall to set up a surprise party for me. “This is amazing!!” I cried swallowing the cough that was trying to surface. “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!” everyone shouted to me. “Food first, then presents,” Amanda my best friend said to everyone. A few of my friends complained but the majority agreed, so we went over to the table they had borrowed from a teacher. We feasted on pizza, pop, and cake while we talked and gossiped. After we were done eating, my friends flocked over to the table that the presents were on and picked up their presents for me and brought them over to me and set them down. I reached for a random present and unwrapped it. It was the most beautiful T-shirt I had ever seen. On the front was a phoenix with its wings outspread and its head turned to the left covering where the heart would be. The phoenix was in gold, orange, and red. The eyes were different though, normally bird eyes, even fantasy birds were black, but not this phoenix. Its eyes were purple. I know this sounds weird but the phoenix looked real, intelligent, and I swear it just winked at me, though I had shook it off as part of being sick at the time. I turned away from it and opened my other presents from my friends and I loved them. Then I saw another present. There was no name to it and no one else was left that hadn’t already given me a present. I hesitated then picked it up, and opened it. It was wrapped in black tissue paper, and when I opened it, I found a black box that jewellery normally comes in. I opened the box and I froze. It was the most beautiful necklace I had ever seen. It was on a gold chain and there was nothing that could compare to it. It was a red rose with diamonds in the middle of it, and it had my name under it. I put it on and looked up at my friends. That was when I noticed him. The Tracker. He looked at me and said, “You have been chosen, it is time to return to the night and become who you are meant to be!” Everyone looked at him with shock and fear..... to be continued... i hope you like it so far 3nodding
