Aww the things I think of
A bunch of rants and what not talking about things that I think of.
Schools for the 21st century
So I go to a university and I'm sitting in class thinking. There's no place to plug in my lap top, and the desk I'm sitting in is very 1985. Some of my professors are young and excited, Some are old and wise. Both are good but the latter tends to come with the problem of not knowing how to turn on the computer. Some classes are small but not all of them. Some classes are large and there's little individual attention.
This is all at the university. At the college they raised the graduation requirement in English from 1 to 1a. Thats fine except they then cut the number of 1a classes. The French class I took was nearly empty but this semester there offering 3 more classes of it.
This is the 21st century. you would think that our colleges and university would be more up to date and there would be better administration choices. So what do we need? 1st is money. We need to stop cutting money to education, we need to increase it. There are more jobs in fields that require higher education.
If I walk into a school in the 1800's or 1900's I might expect to find a teacher leacturing to a class of 150 with few visuals and a chalk board or white board.
but as I said this is the 21st century. I expect to walk into a class with 40 people max and sit down at a desk thats comfotable, I don't mean that I need a plush office chair with a mahogany desk, but what is this crap with the book racks under the chair and the splintering sides of the desk, and the cold metal frame, but maybe a completely wood desk, or if we really have to go metal, lets go all the way. In my opinion every desk should have a plug in for your computer.
Now as far as these proffessors who are teaching like it's still the 60's, Educate them in the ways of the computer. Yeah they will probly never create power points and everything like that, but atleast they wouldn't spend 30 min looking for the power button on the computer so they can show you one picture.
Now as far as the buildings go, ever heard of central heatting people! for crying out load it is freezing in here! Maybe we just don't have the money to turn on the heating, or maybe we don't have heating, either way I'm freezing and something needs to be done about it. Maybe if everyone turned on there laptops the room would be an ok tempurture.
Next problem- parking, seriously. All the parking is on one side of the campus and all the classes on the other. Was the school desinged by someone who enjoys jogging to class every morning weather it be 110 or 50? We should have parking next to every building and enough of it for the students useing that building.
So at this point I'm thinking I should just build my own university. Maybe we should put parking in a square abound the campus followed by all the buildings in a square and then the interior would have a huge park like area with flowers and trees, and grass, and benches and what not. Then in the very center would be a skyscraper of a building with the first floor being a caffiteria type area and lounge, the upper floors a libary.
So I might talk about this latter but I have studies to attend to
