A Dragon's Tale
A story of a young boy who can't seem to do anything right. But he finds that he has one true talent.
In the cool mist of a late rain, a girl dashed through the woods. She held a small, warm object close to her in her left arm, while her right held a simple rod. She glanced back, with a touch of fear in her eyes, as she leaped up over a fallen tree. Black horses galloped after her, with the young male riders bellowing and taunting at her. She continued to run until she came across a small cave. The entrance was partly blocked off, but the small space was just large enough to hide in. She quickly went inside, while then men stopped, thrusting their swords through the space, intending to kill her for the warm object. "You'll die for stealing the King's prized possession!" one male called out. The girl clutched the object tightly, staying against the farthest corner of the cave she could be. She stayed absolutely quiet, as the men continued to jab her.
After being stabbed a few times in the legs, she finally stood up as best she could. She rose up her rod, still clutching the object in her left arm. She began to chant a small, other-worldly sounding sentence, closing her eyes feeling power flow through her to her right hand. The rod had begun to glow in a yellowish light, the glow seeping out of the cave’s cracks and entrance. The light had become so intensely bright that it wrecked the men's vision. There was a sudden pulse sent throughout the area from the rod, and that pulse was the last thing the men saw, or felt.
The girl slumped down, with blood dripping from her mouth. She looked over at all the fallen leaves that had fluttered toward the ground during her use of magic. She then made a small pile of leaves, having taken some from outside, pushing them into a small hole in one of the rocks. She then took the warm object, placing it tenderly in the pile of leaves. She made sure it was unseen, but she knew someone else had to find it. Someone whom was worthy and of good heart could be the one to possess it.

"Justin! Get up already! You’re going to miss the bus!" I woke up rubbing my eyes. Damn, another one of those dreams....I thought. Once I had finally seemed to let the light into my pupils, I saw my overly angered mother standing in my doorway with her hands on her hips. I could tell I should get up now unless I want to suffer her dramatics any longer.
I finally forced myself to get out of bed. My mother then went downstairs, to get my little brother his oatmeal, but of course he didn't have to leave until an hour later, so he could go sleep the extra hour off if he wanted to. But why should I care? No clue, it just doesn’t seem fair anymore. I put on my black undershirt, then a blue plaid shirt, slipped on my jeans with the small silver chain, and ran downstairs with my shoes in my hands. My hair always looks the same even when I don't comb it so I didn't bother to fix it. I ran out the door with my bus leaving the stop.
I ran three blocks before I finally had to regain my breath. When I finally caught my breath, I put on my black high-top Converse sneakers, and tied the laces. I then headed to school on foot. Crap, why is it always me who misses the bus on my first day of school?
By the time I reached the school ground, the tardy bell was ringing, and the principal was closing the gate. I picked up the pace, and pushed right past the principal. I barely made it in the building before he closed the gate completely.
