Paul's booky wooky

Crossroads
his mind was racing, it always did when he had a choice to make.

he stood in the middle of a forest clearing. a gentle breeze grazing against his cheek, the calming sound of trees echoing through the sky filling his ears with familliar sounds of waves wading on a balmy shore. his two most cherrished places combining as one, the feeling was so real it felt like he was in two places at once.

and yet he couldnt relax. his mind kept wandering through the dark shadows of his mind, denying the freedom of the light, the wind and the sound to penetrate his troubled thoughts.

he now stood at a crossroad.

the crossroad was an invention of his own mind that he had allowed to take over and dominate every fibre of him. sleep had evaded him so many times as he would just lay in solitude and think about it, hours were wasted simply living in his own twisted fairytale.

he knew a decision had to be made and it had to be made soon. but everytime he stood in front of it and looked down each path, he was immobilised by fear the only thing he could do was what he always did and couldnt escape from. he would think.

he reluctantly looked to his left, the path was abundant with blossoming forget-me-nots, the smell of honey and rich aromas gently intruding on his solace. it was eden in every sence, the colours, the scents the pure bliss that was its innocent tranquility. but he knew better than to trust what was simply on the outside, for among the illusions of grandure and simplistic harmony; serpents were coiled under foilage, the screeching of unknown creatures offended its grace. he reluctantly turned towards it and as soon as he became inline with the path he felt as if a million eyes were invading his body, buring his very soul, eroding away any good feeling or happy memory, judging him for his weakness.
he stepped back ashamed of his own pride and selfishness.

he dared not look to the left again afraid that those same eyes would intrude apon him and lead him into a direction his head was telling him to go knowing full well the damage that he could cause to himself.

he had no option but to consider the right path. this was far less pleasent to look at and its image haunted him every night, bearing down on his own weakness and cowadice. the right path was a plethora of twisted vines and strikingly horrible creatures. wolf snarled viciously from behind grey branches that had lost all signs of life long ago. the trees took on the appearance of ancient witches passing judgement, reaching for a way out or a way to trag him in, he didnt know which but either way it terrifyed him down to his milk white bones. but something always glistened down the right path as if it were being guarded by the trials of the colourless and gnarled journey to it.
all he had to do was look past the visions of his nightmares and he saw peace and happiness, everything he secretly desired.but he couldnt get passed the first half of the trial and he didnt want to have to be subjected to the judgement or the relentless whispers.
he steped back ashamed of his ignorance and slothfulness.

he sighed as he always did trying to release all fear from himself and clear his mind and his heart. he looked down and twirled his pale fingers. his head was screaming to take the left path but his heart was burning for him to take the right. he didnt know which to listen to.

as he looked up he could see it. the cause of all his problems, he looked at it briefly and turned his back to both paths.
he knew that if he took the left path his journey would be easier but he would be betraying his heart. and if he took the right path his journey would be near impossible for him to bear but he would be staying true to himself.

he knew what he had to do. but he refused to make the decision.

he started back the way he came returning to the plague that had been controlling him.

he didnt look back, but he knew he would again someday.

when he would attempt to conqure the crossroads, untill he could finally make a decision.

This is a beautiful piece. I am a writer in my free time myself, and I really like this. Your writing reminds me of my own. Though, you express your thoughts better than I ever could. I really like this piece. You have a talent, Paul.
