Leo sat at the helm of the Argo II. The sun was just barely visible over the horizon, but Leo had already been awake for three hours due to his new-found insomnia. Then again, who could sleep with the heavy guilt that he felt? He was the reason why his friends Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase had fallen into Tartarus, but, not just that, no. He remembered the attack on New Rome; his attack on New Rome. Even though he had been possessed by an evil ghost-demon, he felt that he could have somehow prevented it.
Now, there was an entire Roman Legion about to launch an assault against Camp Half-Blood. Leo could hardly bare the thought of losing the first home he'd had since running away. He wanted to turn the ship around and offer whatever help he could, but something else told him otherwise; he had to finish this quest, see it through to the end, however painful the cost may be.
Festus's urgent creaking and squeaking interrupted Leo's deep thoughts. "What? Where?" He questioned the dragon head. Leo stared at the sensors in front of him, but there was nothing there. The ship was suddenly overtaken with a strong wave of turbulence. "Festus, talk to me! Report!" But there was no reply.
Just then, as if the engine shut off by itself in midair, the giant trireme began to fall out of the sky.
