This wasn't happening. This can't happen! No, no no no no no no!
It happened fast, but in slow-motion. Her house blew up in flames; the blast pushing her back at least ten yards. she hit her head on the ground so hard, she didn't know up from down.
But that didn't stop her from getting back up and running.
The adrenaline raced through her veins as she came nearer to the blazing front porch. The heat singed her eyebrows. The heat was almost too much to bare.
But Jay didn't care. If her parents are still alive, she was determined to find them. The hard truth was almost too much to bear.
As Jay entered through the door, already choking on the smoke, she thought of the last time she saw her parents.
'See you tonight, honey!' Mom had said.
'No matter what, Jay, we love you,' Dad had said.
'I'll be back as soon as I can!' Jay had said.
Not soon enough, Jay thought as she fell to the ground, overcome by dizziness and eventually darkness.
