Equivalent Exchange

“Humankind cannot gain anything with out first giving something in return. To obtain something of equal value must be lost.” This is a theory developed by the mangaka Hiromu Arakawa. Despite the fact that this “law” governs the anime Full Metal Alchemist, it is still very much true in our own world.

The easiest example would be when you by something at a store. It doesn’t matter what it is you buy, the money that you pay for it is its equivalent price. Lets go deeper though. Lets say that you want to pass a test in Calculus. What is the equivalent price for passing the test? The answer is the amount of time you need to study to pass the test.

You see the equivalent price for the same thing changes from person to person, and from age to age. Now lets say a family member is dieing of terminal cancer. What is the equivalent price to end their physical pain? It is their earthly existetence. Once they give that up, consciously or unconsciously, they are allowed to escape the pain and pass on into heaven, under most circumstances.

Now some people may be saying “What if you sold your soul to become rich and famous? That’s not equivalent!” First off I do not condone this if you do know how to do this. You soul is your most precious gift given to you by God, DO NOT GIVE IT UP FOR ANY REASON! In any respect in your mind you soul is worth exactly what you are receiving, so yes it still is an equivalent exchange. And even if I am wrong in this respect, don’t you think you can give more than the equivalent price for something? Sure lets say you wanted to buy one gumball. That only costs 25 cents. But you some how give $100. Your getting what you wanted, you just foolishly over paid!

To end this I have two questions for all of you:
1.) What have you given up to attain the things you have in your life?
2.) What would you give up to attain the things you want in your life?

This is a good way to look inside yourself and find out your own self value.
