I was asked this question awhile ago..and after giving it much thought i came up with this :
is the Persona we take on when loging on to such pleaces like Gaia ones own 'true self'?
my own belief is that no mater how you act on the Net you are still you, as a person, you have not changed simply because you are sat infront of your PC. Some people may feel they are more..out going or more intelligent when there online but in fact, they are no diffrent from when they are offline in the majority of cases.
However if you start to explore the idea behind Escapism or... in the most extreme cases digital Escapology the question of 'true self' becomes reversed...and the 'Net persona' becomes what ever is real to the relative person and how we preseive them on the Net is who they are.
In short your 'Digital Self' is simply the persona you take on when online be it playing a game or chating in places like Gaia.
But the story does not end there..on my way to figuring this out, I stumbled upon the ideology of Escapism ( The mental diversion by means of entertainment or recreation, as an "escape" from the perceived unpleasant aspects of daily reality ) or in this case 'Digital Escapology' put plainly Digital Escapology is the next step of Escapism.. it is the want for the consciousness to leave the current reality and body behind and escape to the reality of a Video Game or Virtual World.
It is this ideology that i will slowly start to explore and unravel the mysteries of in this Journal..
