laying out groundrules is the first step. when it comes to the kumite combat rules, i think it'll be very simple.
RULES OF ENGAGEMENT:
fighters will enter the "Ring", bow to judge/referee, bow to eachother and cross wrists. the judge/ref will instruct the fighters to commence.
no groin shots.
no breaks. (noses, bones, joints, etc.)
maybe no face shots.
throws/takedowns acceptable.
grappling acceptable.
opponents may yield by saying "matte" (japanese for wait).
ACCEPTABLE BODY WEAPONS:
fists of any type (sun, palmheel, backfist, drunken, pheonix eye, etc.).
elbows.
kicks of any type.
knees.
APPAREL NECCESSARY:
martial arts gi or similar lightweight gear. (sweatpants and a sleeveless are fine.)
tabi boots. ( kung fu shoes or other lightweight footwear)
grappling gloves (padded knuckles and backhand with open fingers for mobility)
OPTIONAL APPAREL:
legpads/armpads.
groin protection.
school emblem on back of gi.
(NOTE: groin strikes are against the rules of engagement, however accidents happen, and therefore it is the responsibility of every fighter to guard against personal injury. if a fighter is intentionally striking at the groin, he will be warned/disqualified, but should an accidental groin stike connect, and the fighter struck is incapacitated, the wounded fighter will be deemed unable to continue and the fight will be awarded to the other fighter.)
next post will include further development of the rules, and hopefully a location and permanent date for the event will be announced.
