So today, in Chorus class, I sit next to these two girls, and the one to my right got a "How to draw Manga" book from the library. I'm like, "Hey Karey, I got this Pocky bag at Anime Weekend Atlanta on saturday." And she's like, cool! So I see her book and I'm like, "They're all disproportionate! His shoulders are normal sized!" You know how all those books look so American and are only in one, weird, un-Japaneseish, style, and how they're all a piece of crap? Well I say, "I'd rather learn how to draw manga from an actual manga drawer person (manga-ka), like Koge-Donbo or Ken Akamatsu, so it would look actually like a manga." And she's like, "Manga?' You see, as you may know, manga is pronounced mahn-guh, but most who are not "in the know" pronounce it mane-ga like it looks. I have proof! This is the read aloud dictionary pronounciation! Anyways, so we get in a debate about the pronounciation. So, person to the left is like, later on, (she didn't hear the conversation, she wasn;t there.) and I quote: "I got that book on how to draw anim, it's cool." talk2hand talk2hand She pronounced it anim. Not anime, just anim. eek eek eek Anim?? ANIM?!? What the heck is Anim?!? burning_eyes What is this "anim" you speak of?? domokun
I know for a fact she was trying to say anime, so I'm like,"It's called anime. redface " So she gets in my face and is like "Like I care." Grr...
So discuss bad pronunciation!
