Bad Dream

Sango was walking along a dusty trail with Miroku. He was talking about something, but Sango was tuning him out. That’s why she wasn’t paying attention when his hand went wandering. *Grope!* *Slap!* both in rapid succession. Sango’s vein’s were popping. "That is the last straw, Houshi!" She snapped. (It had already happened twice today.) With a final icy look, she stomped off to see if she could find a youkai to vent her anger on. "Wait, Sango!" Miroku called after her, but she didn’t hear him.


About an hour later, having not found any youkai, she decided to go find Miroku. So she headed back toward the path. At first she didn’t see much of anything, and certainly not anything interesting. But suddenly, she saw blood slowly oozing from around a corner a little ways along in the path. Now she was worried. "Houshi? … Houshi-sama? Houshi-sama, answer me! Are you there? Houshi-sama? Hou— !" She was around the corner. She gasped in horror and struggled to breathe. In front of her was the most enormous snake youkai she had ever seen... Or half of one, anyway. It was lying in a huge pool of blood. She noticed the point where its body had been cut was not cut neatly, but sloppily. In fact, she thought, it probably wasn’t cut with a weapon at all. But it could have been… her heart started to race. "… Houshi-sama… ?" she called again, trying to find her voice. She heard something move, and she spun around, boomerang ready. But her hand on the weapon went slack from shock. "… H-Houshi-sama!" "…S-San…go…" Miroku mumbled, before falling face flat on the ground, narrowly missing the pool of blood.


Sango rushed over to him and dragged his head into her lap. "Houshi-sama… please hold on… I don’t want… you to..." She started sobbing uncontrollably. Miroku reached up with what little strength he had and wiped the tears from her eyes. "P-Please Sango… d-don’t cry… for me…" Sango attempted to still her tears, if only for Miroku’s sake. Miroku made a weak attempt at a smile. Sango looked at him, and saw that he was covered in caked blood and dirt, and she hadn’t even noticed. She gasped when she glanced towards his left shoulder. On it there was a huge bite mark, and from the bite was slowly oozing blood so thick and so dark, it could have been ink. "What happened?" she asked, before she could stop herself. "I tried to suck it in… in the wind tunnel, but it was so vast, it… it got stuck long enough for it to turn around and bite me… and Sango… it’s poisonous… I don’t… have much longer…" He trailed off looking away. "I’m sorry I angered you." He said, looking back up at her. His breathing had become ragged, and his face was getting paler by the second. "Don’t be, Houshi. I forgive you." She tried to smile, but couldn’t. But Miroku could. "Thank you, Sango. I needed to hear that…" Suddenly, his breathing stopped. "Houshi-sama!" She cried, blinded by tears. "Houshi-sama, don’t go! Don’t leave! I need you!" But by then, he was gone.


"Houshi-sama! Houshi-sama, don’t go! Don’t leave! I need you!" Sango rolled over in her sleeping bag. "Houshi-sama!" "Sango? Sango, wake up, you’re having a nightmare!" Sango’s eyes flew open. "H-Houshi-sama!" she cried. Suddenly she threw her arms around him and burst into tears. Miroku nearly fell over. "Sango? What’s wrong?" But Sango couldn’t talk. She was too choked by tears. So, Miroku let her get them out of her system. A couple minutes later, Sango wiped her eyes on her sleeve. She looked up at Miroku and blushed. "Sorry about that, Houshi." She mumbled, looking down. Miroku smiled in response. "Not at all. I’m glad you know I’m here for you if you need me." Sango looked up and smiled. "You mean that?" "Sure!" Miroku said, and beamed at her. "So how about another hug?" "Sure." Sango said happily. She leaned over to hug him. Miroku groped her. And she smacked him in the face.
