My explanation is as follows:
Some poor sap will be trying to prove to his friends he's a pro hacker and by some fluke manages to get into the US Army Base launch system and will make a single little typo in a word or in a number, completely screwing up the system and making EVERY nuke and other missile the USA has, launch on themselves and all over the world send us plummeting into a nuclear Holocaust, of course, the only ones who will suffer will be the few survivors.
Those who DO survive will be taken hostage by the Elite Cockroach force, who were once innocent tiny, gross cockroaches that have grown to a massive proportion with the ability to speak, think for themselves and grow opposable thumbs so they can wield their special brand of weaponry created by and for them only.
The strongest who have survived will be used as either breeding stock or {the women} will be used to deliver the thousands of baby larva the Queen cockroach will lay in a years time. Those who are too weak from the explosion, will simply be used as food.

If that doesn't happen, we will be forced to suffer with an eternal winter where those who have survived will either freeze their balls off and die, OR they will feed on what is left of the little vegetation until there is none left, then will feed off each other in a Battle to the Death cannibalistic slaughter until they die of suffocation from the lack of oxygen that will not be produced as all the trees and other forms of greenery have disappeared and died under snow and ice...

So remember, be careful of typos when hacking government army base controls... thank you...
