Well, I'm sitting in here watching Patton. It's George Scott's portrayal of the famous General Patton. The movie won 8 Academy Awards in 1970. So far (I'm still in the part where they're going to invade Sicily) I've learned that Patton writes poetry, believes in reincarnation, curses (a lot), likes cigars, was definitely an amazing general, and possibly a little on the nutty side. I like him. He has a sense of humor. wink
Some lovely quotes by Patton: "Now I want you to remember that no b*****d ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb b*****d die for his country."
Clergyman: I was interested to see a Bible by your bed. You actually find time to read it? Patton: I sure do. Every goddamn day.
"Fixed fortifications are monuments to the stupidity of man. If anything made by God can be overcome, anything made by man can be overcome."
sweatdrop I like Patton. So far. I know later he slaps a soldier for crying. On TV. Then he loses his job. But I still like him; he's a character. EDIT: Alright, I just saw him shoot these two donkeys that belonged to some merchant just to get 'em out of the way of his tanks. (They were being bombed at the time, but still.) He's definitely unhinged. Hmm, he's nice to the injured men though. I guess he just hates postponement and cowardice (or what he perceives to be cowardice; I don't think crying denotes cowardice). A couple weeks ago I went to see a Peter Max gallery and Peter Max was actually there. For those who don't know Peter Max, do a search for his paintings. He's amazing!!Anyway, I traded him an original 1969 LIFE magazine with him on the cover for an ORIGINAL DRAWING. HE DREW IT RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF ME!!! IT WAS AMAZING!! We ended up in the newspaper, me and my mom, with the LIFE magazine, from the shoulders down. I'm on the left:
Sorry for the bad picture. It was photocopied from the newspaper. I recently returned from Disneyland. More on that in a later entry.
