How enlightened were they? Explain the meaning behind the name “The Enlightenment,” and judge how big a change this time was from those before it.
The scholars and the artists in the age of the enlightenment were probably some of the most important people in history. People lead by example, and learn by they’re fathers. In other words, if the enlightened people of the past hadn’t focused so much on their art and humanism, we definitely would not be where we are today in this world we call our home.
The name bestowed upon this era serves us a great deal of insight onto what exactly happened in this time. Enlightenment, by definition, is “to give intellectual or spiritual light to; instruct; impart knowledge to.” Meaning, in short, a time where so much was learned and created in such a short period of time, a time when humans flourished for what they could do wit they’re own two hands.
Times of change are always important, no matter the six of the actual change, it is still a change, and that in itself makes it important, I believe. But one as big and influential as the Enlightenment was groundbreaking on multiple levels. The first, being the way people looked at art and sculpture.
