Tonight was the best night of my life. I'll tell you how everything went down. I got most of my report done. About half, so I'm good for tommarow. I cannot believe how well tonight went.
We got there around 5:30. The sun was down and I was listening to "Kirby" by DLD in the car. We pull up and a big section is tented off. I could hear drums. I knew it was DLD. I got out and I heard "middle middle" comming from the tents. I thought the band was already playing, but figured out that they were warming up. I was the only one there. The ticket guy was standing by the gate. I asked him if I could possibly peek inside and he said no, not until 7:00. So I went inside and looked at the band through the windows in the back. I then went back outside because the music stopped. I hung out with the ticket guy when the sheet lifted and out came the one - the only - Kenny Choi. My heart skipped a beat and all I could say was "hey man". I got a "hey there" back and my life was complete. He went inside the coffee shop. I thought about following, but that seemed a little obsessive. Then out came Jason! I didn't say anything. Then came Spencer! At this point I was conviced. I was going in that coffee shop. The band members were in the back room. I could see Stu and Kenny perfectly. I just stared. They looked at me a couple times, but then went back to playing "connect four". I slowly crept closer to the back room and listened to the cashier talking to the tour manager. She said that the cashier knew the band and thats why they came to such a small little place. I crept closer. 2 girls, 1 azn, 1 black were talking about Dashboard Confessional. "Chris Carrabba is pretty buff for an emo guy". I felt like joining in, but my obsession with DLD was drawing me closer and closer. I then got a phone call from kelsey, so i stepped back to the back windows again. When I came back a couple fans were in the room talking. I said to myself "i'm going in there", but I withdrew. My hand shook because my idols were in the room RIGHT NEXT TO ME! The ticket man came inside and declared the line was starting. I got in line first and was inside the tent first. No band, just guitars. My camera clicked away. I wondered how their guitars managed to stay in tune because of the cold. Their fingers must be chopped up right now. I spent about and hour standing there right in front. I thought I lookd like a loser, but when the band started to get on stage I felt infinite. Spencer, the new guitar player, was kneeling over his pedals playing around and tuning. Some girl started to talk to him and I got a good look at his face. He was a kid! 19 years old! He was tall, had blondeish hair, and a semi-handsome nerdy face. He was a kid just like me. I didn't dislike him anymore. He was just as big apart of the band as the others. I called out his name and he looked. I was only a foot away from him. I told him to smile and I snapped a dorky picture of a dorky guitar player. Then Jason Call, the bassist, came out. This guy was awesome! He rocks out at bass even if he does use a pic. He sat down and was eating a really big cookie. From what I encountered before, a comfortable cool kenny choi, i kinda got the feeling that the band was stuck up. This was NOT the case, but i figured that out later. Eventually Stu and Kenny came out and started playing with their guitars and drums. Jason broke out his Fender Mustang bass and turned on his ampeg bass amp. He played a few notes and I could tell his strings needed changing, but none-the-less it sounded great. I was in envy. They broke out with "Sundays" first. It was a little slower than on the album, but great! I sang along to every word. Durring the show I took tons and tons of pictures both with the band looking at the camera and ignoring it. I got 2 videos. One of Sundays and one of Jason dancing with his bass. He really gets into the music which i like ^__^ When he wasn't playing he was resting his mouth against his amp. I do that with my guitar case. I bet his mom wouldn't have yelled at him! well, they played basically everything I wanted. At the end they played 1 more song. "closing down the pattern department". I love that song. First DLD song I've ever heard. This was not the end of the show. I looked at jason and said "hey, can i have your pick?" and he said "no, its the only one I've got" so i said "I'll trade you one of mine!" He got interested and walked over. I showed him my japanese picks and said "you like japan?" and he took one of them and messed with it, testing the strength. He nodded and took it and gave me his chewed up orange pick. I loved it so much I gave him 2 of my japanese picks. It's now with my other stage used picks. In their special case. I ran all around getting my picture taken with every band member except Stu ( i ran out of film). I regretted this because at the end of the show I found out how cool he really was. Anyway, I soon wanted to get a signature. Some proof, as if the pictures weren't enough. I walked back to the line at the merch table and sat on a rail. These girls walked up to me and asked if they could get a picture with me. What was this? They really wanted a picture with me? I obliged and got them a picture with a nice smile. They asked my name and i told them. They were really cool. They asked my most hated question. "are you 15?" I had to say yes, but these 19 year olds were still interested. I gave them my myspace and they should be requesting to be my friend soon. They made my year. They were the first girls to ever tell me that I was cute. That made not only my year, but my life! no other girl can do that now. And it was at a concert with an AWESOME BAND! ONE OF MY FAVORITE BANDS! Anyway, I bought a cd and got it signed by kenny and spencer. Getting stu and jason to sign it was a little adventure i had with spencer on our hunt for a sharpie. Did I forget to mention that kenny signed my shoe? Well he did. Hahah! I love those guys. I also got this AWESOME dld shirt. I'm wearing it tommarow at the show and everything! On my way out I talked to stu. He seemed to be following me. I said "hey, great show". We talked about it for a while and I he asked if i had been to a show before. I had to tell him no because I had band practice. He was really excited because he himself was in marching band! He played snare and quads. We then talked about jazz band and I told him I played bass and was going to start guitar this year. I told him that you learn everything in jazz band and he agreed. They all were REALLY greatful that anyone had come. They said "thanks so much for comming" to me as if they knew me and were thanking me personally. I love those guys. I kept reminding them that it was MY pleasure. They did great. I can't wait to get the film developed tommarow.
I wrote that on xanga yestarday.
