When there is nothing, she finds her true self.
Locked away by smiles, laughter, and happiness, it creeps up on her in the shadow of her mind.
She slowly sees her smile drop, her eyes change to darker tones and she feel a chill, an inner chill she cannot shake.
It takes hold and she sees herself writhing on the ground, grimacing and clenching her head, watching as she slowly begins to change.
Pictures in her mind, memories, slowly drift away, losing their relevance and their form, disappearing from her mind.
As each memory is taken from her, she hears a laugh, a dark laugh, a sadistic and alluring laugh that makes the hair on the back of her neck stand up.
She wanders through the empty space of her mind and find a fragment of a memory. She clings to it but it is wrenched from her and destroyed.
She wanders further, seeking warmth, light, memories-anything, but finds only darkness. A voice calls to her.
"Surrender to me, show your true side, your natural side, your powerful side, and I shall make your dreams come true."
A man appears before her, his lily white skin contradicting yet complimenting his dark raven wing blue-black hair. His eyes alarm her, a dark brown to be mistaken for deepest black draws her in, his smile makes her feel weak in the knees and her eyes seem to play tricks on her as his mouth splits open like a scarecrows, but returns to normal, his pale lips spreading across his face. He is dressed simply in a black suit, red shirt, and black tie, and perhaps that makes her believe he means no harm. As she reaches for his hand, and he holds up a finger. She is entranced as his lips part and speak: "Should you choose me, you must pass a test for me, for the reward you seek will need to be earned. Meet me atop your home. There will be a ladder ascending to your roof. Meet me at the northern point."
She opens her eyes and finds her sitting with the back of her head to the bathroom door. She stands, her legs wobble for a moment, before she runs up the stairs to her room to be met with a ladder at the top of the stairs. She looks and nearly falls back as she sees a hole in the ceiling and a star far above in the midnight sky. She takes to the ladder a bit slowly, finally getting to the top-and is nearly blown off by a strong gust of wind.
She looks ahead, brushing her hair behind her ear and sees the man's back standing at the tip of the house roof. She rushes forwards and taking his hand resting at his side, she pulls back, pulling him to the safety of the roof, calling him to move back-with no voice as another gust blows her words away. But the man looks behind him and smiles at her, and turns to face her. She lets his arm go, puzzled. She watches as he spreads his arms out to her and his voice rings clear around her, enveloping her.
"Come to me and I will give you your dream and power beyond your imagination. Do not come and stay here with what little life you still have and become like the others, like sheep herded by the shepherd." She stood there for a moment, then took a step. Before she took another, a voice called behind her.
"Do not be fooled! He will not give you what you desire, he will kill you and feast on your soul for all eternity in the delusion of a dream!" the voice cried to her and her alone. She faltered, then stopped and looked to the man ahead of her. He looked at her, his eyes glistening and as she watched, his canines grew long and sharp', his eyes turned red like burning embers, and from his head sprout two large blackened curved horns. She spoke, the wind drifting behind her, carrying her words as she ran into the arms of the horned man.
"Better to dream in destruction than live with the eternally blessed forevermore."
