About the Star

<center>User Image

||Brief Description||
The bright star Sirius, alpha CMa, is with -1.5 mag not only the brightest in the constellation of Canis Major, it is the brightest star of the entire night sky (don't forget our sun as the brightest star of the complete sky). It is nine light years away, not particularly close. Often, it is called "the Dog star." Its cycles were closely followed by the ancient Egyptians, who associated the appearance of the Dog Star with the flooding of the fields and the birth of a new year. Later, the Greeks and Romans associated the Dog Star with Orion, The Hunter, and his two hunting dogs Canis Major and Canis Minor. The Greeks named the constellation Sirius, "the Scorcher" as they believed the Dog Star was responsible for the hot weather and listlessness that plagued them in the summer months.

||Brief Description||
Labradorite is truely a fascinatingly beautiful mineral. Its a mineral whose charm is not fully noticed and may be overlooked if not viewed from the proper position. Generally a dull, dark looking mineral with no special virtue until the colorful shiller is observed glowing on the surface. Labradorite can produce a colorful play of light across cleavage planes and in sliced sections called labradorescence. The usually intense colors range from the typical blues and violets through greens, yellows and oranges. Some rare specimens display all these colors simultaneously.

OOC RP Notes

..Decided to use dark cyan as Sirius's RP color. Was quite pleased with myself for being so clever as to add "dark" before "cyan" to create the perfectly coordinating hue. *imaginary nerd glasses glint*

..The first entry is written from a first-person perspective, as that was what came naturally to me when I saw that roleplaying your C.O.S. from its perspective rather than yours was recomended (while I was preparing to enter the Writing Contest). I later switched to third-person perspective after reading several entries from the Crystal Roleplaying Thread and deciding that that would be easier and flow better with the other posts in the RP. Thus the perspective change from post one onward. Hope it's not too confusing. ^^'

..Sirius has so many potential strong personality aspects that I'm a bit at a loss as to which ones I want to develop, and how I want to combine them as a whole. I was, however, very intrigued by the combination of "intellectual" and "emotional". These two aspects combined could create a very fascinating, very unstable personality, as Sirius is torn between logic and what he passionately believes to be 'right'. Sometimes intelligence is a catalyst for highly emotional personas, causing them to be volatile and quite unpredictable.

..Introduced a little of Sirius's tendency toward empathy near the end of Entry 4. Heh heh, men are so confused by emotions (stereotypical, I know XD). I think I've made his ability for telepathy just a little stronger than is normal for the crystal stage, because I want to emphasize his emotional extrovert side.

..It says somewhere that the telepathic link is not something that's established instantly, and that it takes time for a caretaker and their crystal to be able to communicate. However, because of the unusual circumstances in which I received Sirius (he had already had a previous owner), and for the sake of the RP event, I decided that because our first connection had been so strong (see 2nd entry), it made sense for it to remain fairly secure.

..Been a bit worried that I'm making Sirius too strong for his stats. I've improved a bit, but I'll have to keep a close eye on him in the future.

..Looks like Saiph might be found somewhere near where I found Sirius (Las Vegas). If so, I should definately get those two together for some RP, since they'll have something in common already. <3

9/28/04

The cold of space receded gradually, leaving me exposed and raw to the burning that slid across my surface. I already felt unwanted, like the planet was trying to dissolve me into nothingness before I could even land. Already I missed the cool silence of darkness, the ponderous company of stars so old that our conversations were everlasting songs in the void, echoing across time for eons to come.

The harsh glow of Earth's sun had blinded me some time near the start of my descent; and now it was all I could do to reign in the terror that crept through my crystallized form, hurtling blind towards the unknown. But still more frightening than being torn from the maternal void was a slow but persistent dimming of certain parts of my consciousness. I could feel bits of truth and, until now, omni-present knowledge fading, and I could do nothing to halt or even slow its progress.

If I could have, I would have been whimpering my fear, crying out my powerlessness to the uncaring atmosphere. The song of the stars had faded into an almost inaudible hum, and as I strained to hear it, even that small comfort disappeared....

DARK!

It took me a moment to realize that I had stopped, and then another before the pain hit. I could feel a hairline crack running through me, a thin line of aching that connected a few of my glittering facets. Why was I feeling pain? I hadn't known that such a thing was possible without a nervous system- but then, I'd felt the burning of the atmosphere, hadn't I? It seemed there was more to my new physical form than I had expected.

My thoughts were interrupted as I began to register the sounds. Loud, indescribable, and completely overwhelming. I could sense some sort of metallic wall surrounding me on all sides, and this seemed to amplifying the vibrations and noises from outside. Now that the light was dimmer, I could see various organic and non-organic items littering the area around me; many of which seemed to be in a state of decay. Puzzled, I tried to discover more about this strange environment, but my senses were limited by the strange metal prison.

Suddenly, a shadow fell over me, and I could feel a shift in temperature, caused by the body heat of this intruder. Warm, soft flesh closed over me, and I felt myself rising, almost smothered by the pressure surrounding me on all sides. Finally, the grip of the creature lessened, and I found myself very near the face of what appeared to be...a human?

At this thought, I became excited, and immediately attempted to communicate with it (the human). Are you the one I'm meant to find? Or...will you help me find the human I'm looking for....? I trailed off mentally, as the human appeared either not to hear me, or perhaps was even ignoring me. I was carelessly deposited into a dark, confined space in the human's upper body clothing, and there I waited several hours, before finally drifting into sleep, one thought rampant in my disoriented mind....

What's going to happen now?

9/28/04

Sirius winced as he hit the ground tumbling, end over end, banging his sensitive cracked side on the hard pavement painfully. The human that had picked him up from the... garbage can... (he believed that was the word the human had used), had dropped him! And worse, it didn't seem to have noticed! He rolled to a stop in the gutter, half-submerged in a pool of tepid water. This indignity was more than he could bear- landing in a garbage can, getting cracked, and being dropped by the first human to pick him up had not made his journey to Earth a happy one, and landing in a disgusting puddle of muddy water was the final insult.

He lay silently in the gutter, seething and biding his time. He was exhausted, battered, dirty, wet, and lost. If there was one lesson he'd learned during his journey to this wretched planet, it was that letting Fate handle things was not going to get him anywhere. He was tired of waiting for the partner he was 'meant for'. Impatience and anger soon formed a crude plan in his mind; he'd wait for another human to pass by, and force them to notice him. He wasn't thinking clearly, of that he was aware, but he was truly beyond caring at this point.

Just as he had decided upon this somewhat dubious course of action, he felt rhythmic vibrations from nearby. Without the previous confusing amplifying effect of the garbage can, he soon deduced that the vibrations were the footsteps of an approaching entity- likely a human! He forced himself (with great effort) to remain calm, so as to control his limited telepathy better. This would be an all-or-nothing shot, and would likely drain most of his energy. The first time he'd tried to communicate with a human he'd failed, so he was going to put everything behind this attempt. If it didn't work... who knew how long he might remain without a human companion to aide him in this helpless form.

The human drew nearer, and Sirius picked up another sound that made him pause in his vindictive streak. It was so distantly familiar that he couldn't place it, but it felt like home.... The human walked past him, oblivious to the emotional turmoil of a small rock in the gutter, and Sirius was shaken out of his reverie by the sight of what was possibly his last chance striding rapidly away.

DON'T LEAVE ME!

His other senses were static, as he focused all his being on that one desperate cry. Dimly, he was aware of a pause in the receding footsteps, and the sensation of being lifted for the second time that day was a welcome one. Curiosity, concern, and vague disbelief invaded his mind, almost overwhelmingly strong through the forced link he'd created. The familiar sound was very close now, and he finally recognized it. It was music; crude, but containing just a glimmer of the beauty he remembered from the song he'd shared with other stars.... As he drifted into a welcome numbness, a certain sense of satisfaction tingled through him, and from the spastic tightening of the grip around him, he knew that the human had felt it too. He had found a companion at last, and this one he was keeping.

9/30/04

He woke slowly, to the familiar muted sound of the 'music' the human, his human, had been listening to before. As he remembered his unknowing rescuer, he realized that he knew next to nothing about it, or about his current whereabouts.

Cautiously he probed his surroundings, taking in this new environment one sensation at a time. Light.... It was dim, but there was a small amount radiating from a bulb of glass attached to a metal stalk on the surface he was currently resting on. The surface was...some sort of human-made material; strong like wood or metal, but with a taste of falseness to it.

Feeling a bit bolder now, he extended his telepathy still further, until he sensed the warm aura of the human. Ever so hesitantly he touched her, drawing back slightly as this first bit of information was absorbed. Female. Reaching out again, he caught her name, and a hint of her current emotional state of mind, which was relaxed and wanderingly thoughtful.

Sarabi.... That pleased him, somewhat trivially he realized, to discover that her name began as his did, with the whispering syllable "S". Suddenly he felt a spark of the first connection he'd made with her, as though mentally speaking her name, however softly, had somehow caught her nearly nonexistent attention. Automatically he withdrew, fearful of over-drawing his energy again before he'd had a chance to do anything.

He heard Sarabi shift slightly, and a slight intake of air as she sighed softly. "I'm going to drive myself insane, trying to talk to inanimate objects. A rock no less, a ******** pet rock. Insert twitching here." Startled, it took Sirius a moment before he realized that the human had spoken aloud. He didn't really care for spoken language; it was cumbersome and had a tendency to be misunderstood at inconvenient times, although Sarabi's tone of voice had well-conveyed a sense of weary amusement.

But trying to communicate mentally might prove to be quite a challenge if he wished to remain conscious for any length of time, given how taxing the process was. Pondering, he finally decided to try just a simple message, and go from the success or failure of this attempt.

My name is Sirius. There. A simple, non-threatening message. Now for the human's...Sarabi's part. "Oh wow, the rock's talking to me again-" She was cut off as Sirius interrupted with an unspoken plea for her to use mind-speak, rather than the choppy (and ugly, he thought), human voice.

There was a long pause, as the human (he assumed) processed this request. Finally, he heard a faint reply, so muted that it sounded like she was trying to talk through a concrete wall.

...hear me, rock?

He caught the phrase, as well as the self-mocking that came tagged onto it. Sirius felt an inward twinge of amusement at Sarabi's obvious doubt that she was communicating with anything at all, and hastened to reassure her; Trust me, you are far from being 'insane' as you term it. And I am not merely a chunk of stone, so I would appreciate being referred to by name, as I am quite sentient.

He felt slightly dizzy after this extensive message, and decided abruptly that he'd had enough for one day. After a few minutes silence, he felt a tentative touch to his mind, and responded rather curtly; Please let me rest. Communicating has tired me.

Sarabi withdrew quickly, and he shut himself off from her, too tired to worry about bruised feelings caused by his callousness, but nowhere near the exhaustion of his first time. This was encouraging, he decided, if a bit tedious.

10/01/04

In the myriad of questions both relevant and obscure in Sirius's mind, one was topmost in his thoughts as he sat observing Sarabi asleep (or dead, although he doubted it as she occasionally shifted rather violently) on her couch: Who else is there?

Logically, he realized that it didn't make sense for him to be unique in this situation on Earth; there must be somebody else out there, another one like him, who was feeling just as trapped and disoriented as he was.

He had the distinct feeling that there were vital pieces of information he was missing about who he was, and what in the Galaxy's name he was really supposed to be accomplishing on Earth, in the company of a more-or-less intelligent human female.

Vaguely, he remembered an awareness of losing something on the long, uncomfortable voyage through space. What truly concerned him, however, was not the absence of this knowledge. Rather, it was a fear that he would never recover what had been lost, and resultingly, never gain a true sense of self.

Now that he'd had a moment of peace in which to think, the resulting conflict within his mind was hardly worth any headway he might gain. He couldn't sigh, but his resulting exasperation was intense enough to make the human stir in her sleep. Almost guiltily, he dulled it, realizing that he'd begun calling Sarabi "the human" again, even though he'd known her name for well over a day and a night now. It was hypocritical of him to demand to be addressed by his own name, and then not accord the same respect to her, however inferior she was as a homosapien....

His musings were interrupted by a feeling of fear and aloneness that startled him badly. At first, he didn't recognize them as belonging to a different mind, which amplified the panic in his own. What-? Then he heard the cries for help, but so faintly that he couldn't make out any words; only the note of desperation which made it clear that the voice was imploring somebody, anybody to listen. He strained all of his senses toward the signal, focusing every fiber of his being to the point that he felt he would shatter.

...sad and lonely...lost............please....

The presence faded until only an echo remained, and soon, even that disappeared in the silence. Shaken to his core, Sirius called out loudly, broadcasting as far as he could; I'm here! You're not alone! I'm here! This he repeated three times before faltering, then growing silent. It wasn't that he was too tired to continue, but if he received any sort of reply, he would need all his strength.

Maybe whoever's out there knows something, he thought doubtfully. Actually, the voice he'd heard had sounded just as scared and bewildered as he had been the moment he'd landed. But...even if the owner of the voice wasn't able to help him, maybe he could help them somehow.

He was touched by the unabashed pleas for help, and the emotion behind them. He wanted to find whoever it was and comfort them, which made him feel a bit stupid and...weak, he supposed. Shoving those embarrassing thoughts into a darker corner of his mind, he withdrew from the environment and focused his being inward, determined not to miss any further communications with what was likely, and he was growing more convinced by the moment, another one of his 'own kind'. If only.

I am Arcturus. I request the help of all crystals and children that possess the essence of the stars. A crystal has been lost and needs to be located before it fades completely. Help us form a search party by meeting me at the Cabrillo Inn in Santa Barbara, California on Sunday at 4:00 pm. This crystal needs our help and I am determined not to give up until it is found. Please strengthen this signal by rebroadcasting it telepathically to your caretakers and others star beings nearby.

Attuned as he was, waiting semi-patiently for another signal from the being in distress, Sirius was ecstatic when Arcturus reached him. He listened carefully to the rather complex message, then repeated it to himself to be certain that he wouldn't forget any important details.

When he felt confidant that he could repeat the gist of the message to Sarabi, he woke her with a clumsy mental nudge. His excitement at having received communication from another being vaporized any concern he might have felt when the human woke, flailed, and promptly fell off of the couch, landing hard.

Sarabi, there is a being called Acturus who has contacted me and asked for our help. When can we leave for the Cabrillo Inn in Santa Barbara? We must be there by 4:00 p.m., which I assume is a time measurement.

"s**t! Oh wait, yeah...."

He sensed Sarabi's sheepishness as she remembered that Sirius was in fact, a 'talking rock'. He ignored that indignity in his urgency for action, and bombarded her again.

Please, we must hurry! I heard the crystal that Arcturus was talking about, and it needs help. It's alone and frightened- we need to find it!

"The what? Oh, sorry." You're telling me that some guy you've never met just told you that he needs us to find another talking rock? And where was that again- Santa Barbara? Isn't that in California? Do you know how long, not to mention how much money, a trip like that would take?

Impatiently, Sirius interrupted her. I do not understand why it is so much trouble to help find someone in distress. Perhaps we can rest along the way to replenish your "money", but we must leave soon if it will take much time to reach our destination.

He saw her shaking her head, before she replied,
To be perfectly honest, I am technically on vacation so I don't have any obligations to keep, and I suppose we could hitchhike or something, since I'm really strapped for cash. It's not like I had anything planned while I was in Vegas, but going in search of a psychic crystal-thingy doesn't sound all that relaxing to me. God, this is like something out of an eighties flick; Sarabi finds a mysterious talking rock, who guides her on a quest to find another lost one 'of his kind'. She sighed. I guess you don't get many opportunities to help a talking, inanimate object on a rescue mission, though.... Go ahead and tell that Arky-whatever guy that we'll help him out if he's really serious, 'kay?

Sirius decided not to correct her, Acturus had after all sent him a message, not the other way around, and he doubted very much that the other had not been serious. Cautiously he probed for the source of the signal, and once he had found it, sent out his own message. Hello? I...received your message. I don't really know who you are, but it sounds like there really are others out there like me.... He trailed off, feeling stupid for pointing out the obvious. After a moment or two of silence, he realized that he'd rather sound stupid than rude, and that he'd better not risk losing this chance of communication. Tentatively, he began again. I'd like to help if I can. Is...that okay? He stopped there, furious with himself for sounding so weak and unsure. Why would Acturus (whoever he was) want the help of a crystal so hesitant? Anxiously, he awaited the other's reply.

(RP EVENT) 10/02/04

Feeling a bit torn under Sarabi's suspicious gaze, Sirius was startled when he received a reply to his message so quickly.

Yes, please help us. We need all the help we can get. I am certain that with the help of other crystals we can locate the missing crystal. Is there anything I can help you with as far as reaching our meeting place?

The other crystals.... And before, Arcturus had called them... "star beings"? Sirius realized from Sarabi's less-than politically correct reference to him as a 'talking rock' that he must be one of the 'crystals'. But what was a star being? Arcturus had made it sound like they were the same thing....

"What did he say to you?"

Shaken from his reverie, Sirius paused a moment before answering, wondering if he should pass on Arcturus's offer. Apparently Sarabi had been aware of the exchanges of contact, but had been unable to decipher the actual words. He didn't want to take advantage of the other's hospitality when he barely knew him, and might even be unable to help when they arrived. Irritated with himself, he halted that line of thought quickly. He was letting Sarabi's doubt and close-mindedness affect his own thinking, and that was unacceptable. If Arcturus was asking for his help, then there must be something he could do to be useful.

He answered Arcturus first; I'm afraid I've just barely met the human being that I'm staying with, and I'm having trouble convincing her of the urgency of this matter. You don't need to help us, though. We'll be on our way as soon as possible.

There, now that was an image he rather liked. He'd sounded calm and collected, a-

"-man of action?" Sarabi smiled at him, something like amusement in her voice. "You were broadcasting pretty loudly just then," she added unnecessarily.

Belatedly, Sirius realized that after breaking the connection with Arcturus, he had failed to dim his signal strength. Definately something to remember for future reference. He didn't quite know what Sarabi had meant by 'man of action', but by the context, it seemed to fit rather well with his previous thought content.

Arcturus has confirmed his need for our aid- as I knew he would, he added rather pointedly. May we please begin our journey, so that we may arrive as soon as possible at our destination? He was feeling amiable enough not to protest her continued use of spoken communication, although it grated rather harshly on his senses.

Hey, sorry, it just takes me a while to catch onto these things, you know? All in all, I think I'm dealing with taking orders from a talking- I mean, a crystal pretty well. Sure, we can leave now. Just give me a sec to pack a few things.

In consternation, Sirius observed as the human threw a variety of seemingly useless objects into a 'backpack' and 'duffel bag'. He was having trouble understanding why she thought she'd need anything other than nourishment for her frail body. Then again, she really did have a frail body, what with being human and all. So perhaps the tangle of cloth-articles and electronic equipment really were needed for her continued survival outside of this environment called a 'hotel room'.

With something like a mental shrug, he shut himself off from the physical world, and focused his energies instead on testing the boundaries of his mental powers. Maybe he could touch the consciousness of another crystal. With that exciting potential in mind, he carefully began to extend his telepathic aura, proceeding like a blind person's fingers across a new surface; with utmost care and caution.

(RP EVENT) 10/03/04

Sirius had decided that he didn't like cars. After Sarabi had finished packing a variety of seemingly useless baggage, they had set out walking down a pathway she called "I-15", for what seemed like endless miles.

Eventually another human had pulled over and offered Sarabi a ride, which she had accepted, noting to Sirius;
See, hitchhiking generally isn't a very safe thing to do, but this guy is gay- so we should be okay.

Completely baffled, Sirius had agreed that Sarabi would know more about such things them him, and had only asked that he not be shoved into her pocket, as he disliked the feeling of being smothered. This had resulted in him being placed on something called a 'dashboard', on which he slid from side to side as the human operating the 'car' moved the steering device.

After hours of traveling this way, he had come to the conclusion that being 'gay' meant that a human operated a car that was adorned with a plethora of rainbow skins, which were meant to warn other humans of their reckless behavior on the pathways called 'roads'. As he slid once again toward the perilously close (and open!) window, he cursed Sarabi for being asleep and oblivious to the discomfort of their journey.

((I swear I have absolutely nothing against gay people!! XD <3))
