{Lighting Responce}

The little peppermint scented boy had certainly done a good job showing her around, and he had been so patient and kind despite her being so very impatient and slow. It seemed that everytime she'd begin to decide on something she'd look out the window and think otherwise about returning to the cold, choosing instead to shuffle just a bit deeper into the thread and point out a new scent for the boy to show her. Finally, when the others had left and she was getting that 'please hurry up' look from the boy she decided on a fruity scent labeled "Orange Haze"

After paying for her purchase she certainly didn't forget her promise to the boy about showing him a good trick. Beconing him over she crouched down, spreading her skirts about her so they wouldn't wrinkle, and asked him to stay still for a moment so she could study him. The change was fairly instant - her hair growing out just a bit longer, her cheeks gaining red freckles and her features becoming more childlike until she was the female version of Ment. With a devious smile she rose, ruffled the boy's hair with her free hand and turned to leave the store, offering one more thanks to him and the woman behind the counter.

Perhaps the little venture into the store wasn't such a good idea, for it seemed even colder now that it was later into the evening and since she'd warmed herself so nicely in the store the smelled so wonderful. The bag with her purchase was clutched to her chest, a finger stroking the contents as if the tropical scent would help her to eradicate the cold biting through her. Thankfully it was only just a bit further to her home and her stride took on the overly casual stride that would take her there that much faster. Home. It was warm in there.

Although her home wasn't the largest, or the prettiest, or even the cleanest, it was by no means small or ugly or even messy. Average was really all you could call the place that Kitten stepped into, kicking off shoes that had been making her feet complain the entire evening. Moving into the kitchen the woman unwrapped her purchase and placed it upon the countertop next to the sink, polishing a small smudge off the edge before wandering away to take care of a few things. First she'd change her clothes, change her features back into the ones she'd been sporting when she'd first entered the shop and preparing her bed for sleep.

It felt, to Kitten, like these small events were taking her forever, but a quick glance at her watch proved to be another story entirely. A whole ten minutes had been devoted to putting on confy pajamas, regaining short hair and dressing her bed, which was now looking quite comfortable. A grumble was all that could be understood from the woman now as she trudged into the kitchen and put on a pot of tea for herself to soothe her aching body. Tea was the cure for everything she had learned. Peering at the dish of bright orange gel she couldn't help but smile. She'd light it before she went to bed and enjoy the scent while reading her book and drinking her tea.

Fifteen minutes later Kitten was tumbling into her bed, her full and very sugared cup of tea placed upon her bedside table next to her new scent and a boc of matches. Leaning over the edge of her bed the woman plucked a thick book from the floor and heaved it into her lap with a wrinkle of her nose. She'd be glad when she was done with this book, honestly, it was far too much to be tugging around all the time! But this didn't keep her from lighting the candle at the base of her purchase and settling down against a small multitude of pillows.

Now this was the life! Wiggling happily the woman took a deep breath and realized something wasn't quite right. She took another look at her page and let out a soft swear and began digging around in her bedside table to finally find her glasses and push them onto her nose. Fine time for her eye-sight to be acting funny. It happened every once in a while so it wasn't a big deal. Tomorrow she'd simply change her eyes and 'fix' the problem. Kitten has just begun to sit up and go back to her book when out of the corner of her eye she noticed...smoke? That wasn't right. Gel dishes over candles didn't usually smoke, did they?

Leaning in she tried waving her hand through the smoke - maybe she was just imagining what she was seeing. That was entirely possible. Once, when she'd changed her eyes, they'd begun playing tricks on her. The smoke wavered away at the breeze brought about by the wave of her hand and what sounded like soft laughter tinkled through her room. Well that was a bit too much for Kitten. She decided she was imagining the entire thing and moved to blow out the candle. No matter how hard she blew at the flame it refused to go out. With a final curse the woman ignored it, rolled over and went to sleep, trying her best not to think about the overpowering scent of tangy oranges filtering through her room.

{Child Awakening}

Time, for Kitten, was a fluid concept. It seemed that truly, there was never enough time for anything these days and the more errands she managed to rack up the more she truly felt like time was launching a war against her. No matter, she'd get everything she needed to get done within the reasonable limits if not just a bit past their deadline. Looking at her list, the woman let out an irritated groan. Everything had been crossed off except one tiny item that had been scribbled upon the back.

How very unfair the day was turning out to be. She had just finally returned home after doing all her silly little chores and now, now it was going to prove that she would have to go out yet again to finish such tedious things. But she really, really, really didn't want to. With a stomp of her foot and a soft whine of protest Kitten began to re-gather her things, puttering about the room with that sort of slow, debating movement that seemed to suggest that maybe if it took her a total of 8 hours to get ready to leave she could put off the chore for the next day.

This, of course, would not be the course of events, for no matter how Kitten tried to stall and procrastinate and protest to the list laying on the sounter next to her lit gel cup, it only took her 10 minutes to get ready to go. With a sigh she moved over to the list and picked it up, shooting it another irritated glare before stuffing it into her pocket. Taking a breath she leaned in and soaked in the warm scent of her gel cup. "Mmh...you always make me calmer, thanks," she murmurred to the cup before turning away and leaving to finish off her list.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Three hours later the door to the small house was flung open and promptly slammed shut. In stormed a woman with hair full of bright reds and oranges like fire and eyes that seemed to shift about like flickering flames. Oh yes. Kitten was livid. "THREE HOURS?! THREE GODDAMN HOURS STANDING IN YOUR GODDAMN LINES AND FILLING OUT YOUR GODDAM FORUMS! I DIDN'T EVEN WANT TO GO OUT TOD--" A loud crash and the tinkling of glass made Kitten stop in mid rant and peer in the direction of the sound.

In an instant the hair had gone back to short gray whisps that fell over their counterpart gray eyes. "Ah, hello? Who's in my room?" she called out, looking about for something to defend herself with. But it didn't make sense. The door had been locked when she tried to enter just a moment ago and she could tell by the temperature in the house that there was no window broken somewhere and leaking cold air into the warm comforts of her now very citrus-scented home.

Inching closer to her room Kitten grabbed for an umbrella lying off to the side for those especially rainy days. "Please come out? I promise I wont hurt you as long as you don't hurt me. I don't really appreciate you being in my house but I'll be happy to let you go if you just come out from wherever you're hiding and promise not to break into my house again." Peeking into her room Kitten did a quick sweep of anything that might be missing for whatever reason. Everything seemed to be in order though, nothing that she could think of that was worth stealing was missing...

Then she caught sight of her precious burner. It was shattered on her table and gel dripped slowly over the edge into a small puddle. Tears began to brim in Kitten's eyes as she looked at the remains of the cup. No...not my burner... Sure, she had been almost out of gel, but it wouldn't have been all that hard to go back to the store she'd gotten the gel from now would it? "Look, whoever you are you've broken something very important of mine and I would really like an apology and some money to replace it. And you better pray that they have more Orange Haze or I'll be really upset!"

As silence continued to penetrate the air she signed and turned to get a towel to clean up the mess. Whatever freak accident there was it didn't seem like anyone was willing to answer her calls. Something out of the corner of her eye made her look closer at the puddle pooling on the floor. Footsteps? There were small footsteps leading away from where the pool of gel was gathering at the bottom of the table. So there was someone here after all. "You better run because I don't take well to being ignored," she grumbled under her breath before spinning around to search for items to clean up the mess.

"Hello," pipped up a sweet voice as Kitten turned around, coming face to face with a child wearing dark glasses and with orange braids falling down either of her shoulders. "I wasn't...ignoring you, as you put it. Instead I really didn't know how to reply. I don't exactly have any money to give you...and I didn't mean to break your dish." Kitten could only stare dumbly at the girl, blinking like an owl and trying her best to get words to form.

"It's not nice to break into people's homes," she finally managed, pushing past the girl and grabbing for a rag to clean up the mess that had been left behind. "Why don't you go home before your mother begins to miss you? I don't want to be taken as some kidnapper or some such." Apparently Kitten had forgiven the girl for breaking the gel dish. It's not like it was that big of a deal after all and Kitten was really far too tired to be dealing with such things at the moment.

Silence dragged on between the two of them as Kitten continued to clean up the mess on the floor, drawing closer and closer to the girl's gel tracking feet. Finally she was ready to clean off under the girl's feet, the last bit of gel there was remaining of her beloved citrus scented candle. "You're still here? I asked you to go home. Just let yourself out and go home. I've got a mess to clean up here." The small girl stepped aside before crouching down and watching with curious intent as Kitten cleaned. "Is there anything I can do to help you?"

"Just leave. Go home." Kitten was beginning to lose her patience, how many times was she going to have to ask the child to leave before she'd be forced to call someone to remove her from the home for good. This wasn't fair to Kitten at all, not at all. The small girl leaned closer to Kitten, peering up at her with wide eyes and suddenly Kitten felt faint from the scent of oranges coming from the girl...surely she must have spilled a bit much on herself to be smelling so strongly... "I am home..."

It seems I'm not the only one that got stuck with a little scent baby. When I returned to the store, with Vanyel in tow, I discovered that there were actually a small number of scent babies wandering around, though Vanyel wishes for me to make it quite clear that they are not at all babies and indeed they are quite grown up. Vanyel herself seems to be, oh, I don't know, somewhere between 8 and 10, though she acts a great deal more her age. When she's indoors she's overly mature and almost annoying, but when she's outdoors she's every bit her age. She just adores the warm weather we've been getting off and on and I really can't blame her.

The other children I more or less met were...interesting to say the least, especially the little Egyptian boy. I noticed that Vanyel was the only girl puttering around but I don't actually find that odd I suppose. Perhaps the other mothers didn't feel like dragging their daughters out, and why would they? It's quite the trip out here and I'm sure they didn't have the same concerns I did. Not that I actually had any concerns, but you know what I mean, don't you? Look at me, talking to my journal as if it could understand me, how silly.

Well anyway, I hope that Vanyel is able to make friends with some of these scent babies I mean children. I think it's a wonderful experience and all that jazz whatnots.

I met another girl like me today, although I can't really say she was like me because I don't think she was really like me at all, if you know what I mean. She seemed like she was a bit bossy, but not really terrible to be around. Her mommy was really nice I thought, so I spent more time talking to her with Kitten than I did talking to her scent daughter. I didn't like the smell very much anyways. Vanilla and I don't really get along though Kitten disagrees. I bet a lot of people disagree. I bet a lot of people would like orange and vanilla together, but I don't.

I think the best scent that would go with me is mint, but I haven't met anyone like that. In the big store I remember smelling a bit of mint, but it wasn't coming from any of those pig-headed boys if you know what I mean, although I really, really liked that Egyptian boy. I hope I get to meet him again real soon. I hope his make-up looks better though. I wasn't really a fan of the green. It's too bright against his skin, which is so tan. I'm envious! I'm going to sit outside in the sun as much as I can and hope I get as tan as him someday. But then I'm sure I'll end up with skin cancer. I've read all about it, much to Kitten's distaste.

Oh yea, but back to the other girl. I don't know. I guess I don't have much to say about her, but atleast that means I don't have anything mean to say about her. I hope I meet her again though. Maybe she's nicer when there isn't cotton-candy on the line.

Wow. I guess I'm really lucky. I met that Egyptian boy again like I was hoping. His make-up is still there, how girly, but I'll get over it. He's pretty funny to be around I think, although I think he was challenging my mommy. That wasn't very cool. He said the woman I saw in the store that one time wasn't his mommy, but she sure seemed like she was trying to take care of him. I guess she was like a babysitter or something. Amahte said that his mother is among the gods, which another mother thought meant his mommy was dead, but I don't believe that. Amahte doesn't seem to beat up about it and I don't know what kid wouldn't be really upset about his mother dying. I don't know what I would do if Kitten died.

I was playing sand castles when he came along. Of course, I recognized him right away without a doubt! He stands out way too much for his own good I think, especially wit that attitude of his. One of these days I think he'll upset someone too much and they'll come after him, but I don't think it's something I should be worrying about because I don't actually know him all that well. I think we could be good friends though. I hope we can be good friends.

That girl, I can't believe her. I tell her she's allowed to go to the library for a day and what does she do? She leaves and runs to the other side of the street, without an adult and plays around in the park the whole time. Here I was thinking I could trust her. She tells me she was careful and that she didn't disobey me jut to disobey me, but I have a hard time believing her where she does something like this. I don't think I'll be able to leave her alone if she keeps this up.

She was with some boy today called Anbu. I wish she would make more female friends but I guess they're hard to come by since the only other girl I've seen was the one at the fair who didn't seem to be all that pleasant. Not to say she wasn't pleasant, but I didn't see a whole lot of sweetness besides the cute smile on her face and the flower in her hair. I hope that Vanyel will see her again some time soon though because, like I said, I don't think it's good she's got so many guy friends. That usually leads to things I'm not too thrilled to think about for my little scent baby.

Ment. An interesting kid. I don't really have too much to say about him though, other than he didn't let me buy a little lime baby. It's not fair. And Kitten is holding out a sister on me. Some "experiment" she says. Experiment? Who gives a damn. I want someone else to talk to. Someone else to hang out with. The other kids are nice and all, but I want someone closer to me. I feel rather alone...
