  • Banners Galore!
The Lit Mag is in desperate need of a new banner for the homepage. The current one is dark, ordinary, illegible, and altogether unremarkable. This cannot do! Thus, we are now in the process of making a new banner. It has been drawn by PyroAurah, who has gotten together with PadawanCyn to commission a good inker to clean it up. This uncolored banner will soon be available to the guild and the rest of the public for coloring. This will be a contest open for both of the aforementioned groups and regardless of membership status the winning banner will be used on our homepage. Anyone who enters is eligible to win. Fantastic prizes will be given. To discuss fonts or to see the banner sketch, please click here.

  • Identity Crisis!?!?
Many subforum names have been changed to make them a tad more understandable. The word “chat” has been added to the Brainstorming/etc./etc. subforum. From now on, it will simply be known as “Chat” in a vain attempt to stave off carpal tunnel and a bad case of OFDNS (Old Fart Daytime Nap Syndrome). The once garbled name of the fanworks section has now been shortened to just that - “Fan Works”. Poetry/Songs has also been modified to simply “Poetry”. You may still post songs there, but since no one has, the name has been shortened to save us all the headache. Also, the useless “Minishops” forum is now the “Newsletter Archives”. There you may sign up to write the newsletter, offer suggestions, or simply read past issues for a small bout of nostalgia. I hope the new names help everyone figure out what’s what. Enjoy!

  • Ranting/Raving Spot for Art-Related Products
You might not remember this, but in last newsletter’s “Upcoming Events” section we mentioned the creation of a new subforum. While we chose to name it “Product Reviews” rather than the promised “References”, it now exists! Come sing the praises of your favorite character-creation book or publicly paste your most hated paint brand until the manufacturing plant bursts into flames (or you do! *The Lit Mag staff is not responsible for any incidents of spontaneous combustion caused by overzealous product rants). Now is your chance to whine! Go for it!
Note: We are sorry for any confusion the name change might have caused, but we simply thought that “Product Reviews” was more apt than “References”.

Typed Tips

  • Wet Canvas
An artist’s site filled with in-depth discussions for amateurs to experts for nearly every medium imaginable.

  • The Obakemono Project
This is a site dedicated to researching and recording every creature to ever appear in Japanese mythology and legend. Whether you’re looking to write a fanfic or original story with authentic Japanese monsters or you just want a starting point for some supernatural critters of your own, this is the place to look!

Good Viewing

  • DeviantARTist: Ramy
This CG anime artist does both original works and fanworks, many of which are large and detailed enough to use as beautiful wallpapers for your computer. For those who want to learn to color, or even to simply sharpen their skills, a little digging will reveal detailed CG tutorials (some basic concepts of these can be applied to other mediums) and beautiful linearts waiting to be colored.

  • DeviantARTist: SilentReaper
This artist does a few pictures, but has mainly dedicated herself to creating laugh-yourself-onto-the-floor comics. These comics are typically based loosely on the anime/manga Death Note or are real events that have occurred in her life. Both are equally funny, and I advise you to read all of her strips whether you’re a fan of the subject manga or not.

  • Ex Nihilo Zahra
This fanfic authoress and parody artist does great works no matter what she does. Be it amusing parody comic series that require no background knowledge or her famed, angst-filled I Know What Lies Beneath the Snow Fields FFVII fanfic, Zahra is well worth checking out.

Only the banner right now! Be on the lookout for the contest. It should start sometime early next week.

This has been the Lit Mag's Newsletter issue of August 2007. Thanks!
