-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Airon could almost feel the cold of this October's night outside, were it not for the large fireplace radiating warmth and comfort almost next to him. Back in his home village this might've been just a chilly night, but out here in the Vadanian highlands, the weather was unforgiving.

He took a look around at the inn. It was small, yet hardly buzzing with the life of most inns he had seen so far in his travels, with only two or three tables sporting a handful of patrons each. It seems the Vadanian folk of this area preferred the comfort of their own homes to the drinking contests the lowlanders held almost daily. The human shrugged- he didn't seem to care much, really.

Taking a sip from his beverage, he pondered on his 'quest' some more. Since the majority of elven masters had chosen not to reveal their secrets to him, highly probably anyway considering the effort to convince his old master to teach him a few tricks, he had travelled to Vadania, to search for the almost Legendary Purple Tower. Situated in some small, weather-shielded valley, this small establishment was the refuge of some powerful Lanian wizards along with their retinues of men-at-arms and peasants, as they arrived here fleeing from the orcish invasion. The Purple Tower was a place of learning for the worthy, and frankly, just to find them was a daunting task alone. He had learned of this legend somewhere in some Lanian inn, the first place he had travelled after the Elven forests, but the kingdom of Lania was ruined and he didn't find any masters willing to teach him, as they were busy fighting the foul orcs with their potent magics.

After a few drinks and observing a particularly amusing drinking contest in which a barmaid outdrank an old dwarf and two boasting lowlander men, Airon retired to his chamber upstairs.

Fortunately, the fire place was already lit, but it was still quite chill. He sat down on the bed and opened his master's spellbook. He kept it with him at all times, and it was certainly his most precious possession. He looked over the first few pages. He could read Elvish perfectly, but as his master said, " The words are just words. It is the focus of the mind that gives them power." Airon knew how to focus on some of the spells and what to gesture for them, but he wanted to know more. And he could only find out more at the Tower. But now, he need to sleep.

Airon extinguished the candle by his bed. He could hear the wind howling. A storm was approaching. He would have to find some information about the Tower fast, before he got stuck in this town.

As Airon closed his eyes, thoughts raced across his closed eyelids, about the Tower, his master, his family, the invasion... Still, after a while, he managed to sleep, his snoring echoing around the room.

...he could see it, but it was so strange. It was purple alright, all the way down that path... But wait, the path was not a path, it was a road! Paved with heads, the heads of his fellow villagers, his family, and other people he never had the chance to know. He was stepping on them, barefooted, feeling the hair, the features of their face, their very masks of pain giving way as his large feet trudged onwards towards the Tower. And it grew larger and larger... and larger... and yet he could not reach it. It grew so large that it obscured the rest of his vision... but he could not even touch it. He looked up, a purple ominous sky, filled by the Tower. And then the heads all around him exploded in shrieks and yells and cries of "Help"...

"Help!", he could hear being yelled loudly as he woke up. This was strange, because it was no dream. He could clearly hear a female voice yelling for help downstairs, rather desperately indeed, and despite his grogginess, it was clear as hell it was coming from below.

Airon shook the sleep from his eyes, and quickly threw on his robe. He snatched his quarterstaff, and headed out into the hallway. The screams for help continued as he raced down the stairs.

The bar was in chaos. Tables ere overturned, stool were broken, the innkeeper had been knocked out and was lying on the floor, and the source of the screams was the barmaid, currently being pushed against the wall by two ruffians. meanwhile, three others were having fun breaking anything they could get their hands on and taking anything of worth.

As Airon enter the bar, the vandals turned to face him. The barmaid yelled "Help me!" but was muffled by one of their hands. The largest of these men stepped forward, brandishing an ugly knife. "Good sir," the man mockingly snarled, "it would do you best if you were to leave this place and let us go on our merry way. The innkeep owes us something, and we are only here to collect."

Airon responded, "I'm sure you've collected quite enough this night. Templa naur!" As he spoke the Elvish invocation, Airon thrust his arm forward, palm first, and focused his mind on a ball of fire, shooting from his hand towards the vandal.

((OOC: templa naur is elvish for 'magic fire', and is the invocation for a fireball spell. This is a basic magic spell, but improves with skill. I'll let you determine what you think Airon's current skill level should be, so the size and strength of said fireball is up to you. I hope this is okay.))

OOC: It's ok, but I think we're better off keeping some GM stuff like how they reac to me, ok smile I appreciate doing this to speed things up, but now that I've resumed university, I can post at least once every day in breaks.
Now, let's roll to see how you hit... I'm testing WIL+1, Difficulty 4, so it's 6 dice.
Odysseas rolled 2 6-sided dice: 2, 3 Total: 5 (2-12)

OOC: The bandit's caught unaware, so I roll for damage for those 2 successes, difficulty 4.

OOC: Well, that's crap. I'll also roll initiative with this post. First dice is yours, second is the leader, third are the two lackeys that destroy stuff. The other two are still holding the barmaid.

IC:
Surprise Round:
Airon's fireball catches the man by surprise, but the spell was so rushed that the weak fireball that emerges from his hand merely scorches the man's ugly clothing, causing little pain that mostly enraged him. He feels ready to charge.

OOC Great! That means you act at initiative 9, the leader at 5, and the lackeys at 4. Your action? Post either OOC and I'll describe, or IC and just what you wanted to do.

Airon frowned. The fireball was nowhere near as powerful as he needed to be.

OOC: Airon will attempt another templa naur, then move into close quarters with the leader and attack with his quarterstaff.
Odysseas rolled 6 6-sided dice: 3, 4, 4, 6, 5, 2 Total: 24 (6-36)

OOC: Ok, let's see how this templa naur fairs.

OOC: Wow, 4 successes! Let's see how many of them get through. Also, forgot to roll the leader's dodge, it's the first die, so it's 5 dice total. If the first one succeeds, then the FIRST of your dice is not counted. I'd say he needs a 6 to dodge a fireball at such close quarters.
Odysseas rolled 6 6-sided dice: 4, 1, 4, 3, 6, 1 Total: 19 (6-36)
PostPosted: Fri Oct 26, 2007 5:15 am

OOC: Wow, 3 damage points! That'll give him a -4 to all rolls... which makes his attack useless.
IC
Round 1
Phase 9: With a swift incantation, a fireball, much stronger than the previous one, is launched from Furijin's fingertips and hits the leader square in the chest, creating horrendous burns throughout the man's torso. He collapses in an agonizing heap with a shriek, alarming the rest of his lackeys about his condition.

OOC: Let's see if the lackeys make it. I say they test their WIL vs 5 cause a magician just dropped their leader, not something they're used to. First three dice for one, second for the other.

OOC: It seems they're here to stay!

IC:
Phase 4: The two sidekicks of the fallen leader seem to be distraught by this threat, but their andrenaline kicks in mingled with fear for spellcasters. They're pretty eager to smash Airon to pieces with their large, crude clubs, so they charge forward.

OOC:
Ok. So each rolls 4 dice, Att 4, Airon has a MD of 3 but is at -1 for being attacked by 2 guys, he's at Def 2 for using a quarterstaff. So 4 dice Lackey 1, 2 dice Airon, 4 dice lackey 2, 2 dice Airon.
Odysseas rolled 12 6-sided dice: 1, 3, 1, 6, 4, 3, 3, 2, 2, 3, 1, 4 Total: 33 (12-72)
PostPosted: Fri Oct 26, 2007 5:21 am

OOC: And it would be nice if the dice were actually rolled.

OOC: Let's deconstruct this (feel free to ignore my OOC here)
1, 3, 1, 6: 2 successes
4, 3: 2 successes!
3, 2, 2, 3: 2 successes
1, 4: 1 success...

So I roll for damage for this guy. It's 1 success+4 STR=5 dice, damage 5. Since this is blunt damage, I'll allow an armor of 6 with CON dice, which is 3. So first five dice are damage, last 3 dice are "armor"! I know this is fast and deadly, but this is what it was designed to be.
