I'm in the process of writing a novel in the form of a memoir by Sherlock Holmes' unknown younger sister, Beatrix. I figured that since Watson didn't find out about Mycroft until the Greek Interpreter, it might actually be plausible that there was another sibling that was quite simply never mentioned.
The way I have it set up thus far, Beatrix is living and working in a boarding house owned by her friend, the widowed Mrs Emily Lyons. Near the beginning, she mistakenly receives a letter intended for her brother, but chooses to take on the case herself rather than forward the letter, to prove Sherlock's opinion of women wrong. Being very similar in height and build to her brother, she disguises herself as a man and adopts his identity until the case is solved.
Does that sound totally farfetched, or could it possibly work?
