And the nation watches with a curious eye to see how the new president will fill his new roll. Supporters will give him full faith while haters will wait for him to fall. He has to be really careful how he handles things, or everyone will hate him. It kind of sucks to be in his position, if he does even one thing wrong, people will hate him forever. There are already people who are wanting him dead, there have even been already attempts at his own life even before he was president! He has a target on his head and he has only just been named president; I am sure he is aware of this, he should be scared for his life but also really brave, he must really believe in what he says to risk his family and his life, to risk his future. I really hope he does well, because even one mishap may cost him his life. He is being watched by everyone in the world, he is history in the making, we are watching a story come to life. What ever he does will be written down in books that will be looked back upon in generations to come. If he messes up, we will never have a president of African decent again. If he succeeds then he will create the path for future presidents of other ethnicities to follow.

I bid him good luck as well. 3nodding And if he screws up and someone kills him for it, it will make him a hero, not someone to be looked down on. It all depends.
However, I must say the US election has left me feeling better than ours did. Good job to everyone who got out and voted, and I will not judge your choice in candidate. Whether you voted McCain or Obama AT LEAST YOU VOTED. wink And if you didn't vote, I'm sure you had your reasons too.
I wonder what the future will hold, because - as much as I dont like this thought - the United States affects the world more than any other country. That's why the world was watching for the results. Nobody cared who got in in Canada. razz

See this? I want it. I'm somewhat concerned about what's going to happen when Obama leaves the White House. If he does a great job, people may end up assuming that only black people can be trusted as leaders. This isn't true. Up here I keep hearing about various black people who keep being looked at to be the new Prime Minister. Everyone's saying that Obama's made it so that skin colour doesn't matter, and yet everyone's STILL judging based on that. Nobody seems to think that a white person could bring as much hope as a black person can.
Then of course there's the problem of Obama doing a bad job. If he can't improve conditions then it'll be extremely difficult for black people to get back in office.
We'll just have to see what happens. Donations luffed.

See this? I want it. Though I have to question just how 'historic' a victory this was. Obama's only supported by a little over half of the population. If people really think he represents so much good and if the race barrier has been truly overcome, you'd think he'd have won by a little more than that. Donations luffed.

Prop 8 was passed today, gay people's rights to marriage has been taken away and current marriages will have to be annulled. Last week I would have been pissed but right now Im more sad then angry for this. I know that many people will be rejoicing and I understand that to many people marriage is something that people are afraid will not mean as much. I am aware that not many people are OK with the divorce rate, I understand that many people know that marriage today doesn't mean as much as it once did, and I also understand why its so important for some people to make it so that homosexuals can not get married. They are afraid of it dying completely. Marriage has been a sacred act for thousands of years and only up until the last 150 years has divorce threatened it, and even newer is gay marriage being new for only 50 years. People are scared of change, people get settled into an idea or belief that the world works a certain way and then when something new threatens customs and beliefs, they dont know what to do other then to fight against it. I dont think this will last long, I think that it will be fought against. Things could turn up good or bad on either side.

Actually, if Obama does well, people aren't going to assume that only black leaders can do well. However, if he does, more black candidates will try to be elected.
This country usually looks at party.
For example, if he does bad, people are probably going to assume it's from the fact that he is a Democrat. Some are going to stand up and shout "RACE!" but, most young voters will just look at party lines.
Obama had everything loaded in his favor for this election. Let's see if he can follow through.

On the gay marriage thing, I don't understand how banning gay marriage is going to reduce the divorce rate... I really don't get the logic, no matter how hard I try, and usually I think Im pretty good at seeing other people's viewpoint (correct me if Im wrong!). If more people are allowed to get married, why would that affect the divorce rate??? I don't understand it.
Explain if you can?

It wont change divorce rates. But people are afraid that just because of the divorce rate that other people just want to "throw marriage to the wind" as I have been told with gay marriage.

I was thinking that instead of banning marriage, we could ban divorce for all marriages younger than five years.

Last time I checked, lesbians right out of high school weren't jumping on the band wagon and getting married. Couples that had been together for YEARS were getting married.
